CNA Job Overview Title Nurse Aide I - Non-Exempt

The Nurse Aide I functions in an assistive role in the provisions of Client Care Activities through regular assignments or delegated tasks, all supervised by the RN. The NAI demonstrates the ability to carry out specific tasks with reasonable skill and safety, while supervised by an RN, that adheres to the prevailing standard of practice in the nursing community. The NAI is responsible for accepting delegation from the supervising RN, seeking further clarification of and affirming those expectations, performing the tasks correctly and timely communicating results to the supervising RN.

Duties
  • Checking/documenting patients' pulse, temperature and respiration.
  • Assists patients in simple prescribed exercises and range of motion.
  • Maintains records in order to report and discuss observations with a supervisor or case manager.
  • Provides patients with help moving in and out of beds, baths, wheelchairs or automobiles, and with dressing ang grooming.
  • Changes bed linens, washing and ironing patients' laundry, and cleaning patients' quarters.
  • Performs a variety of duties as requested by client, running errands, preparing meals, etc.
  • Facilitating communication with supervisory RN by requesting clarification and affirming task expectations
  • Functions as a team member demonstrating collaborations with and responsibility to the patient, Physician and the health care team.
  • Shifts or visits are according to the orders on the Plan of Care/Home Health Aide Assignment sheet.
  • Observations of significant changes in patient status are communicated to the RN Case Manager.
  • Attendance at Multi-Disciplinary Team Meetings is recommended and is documented via sign-in sheets.
  • Communicates to RN Case Manager/Director of Clinical Services for each patient as needed.
  • Asks questions and seeks clarification.
  • Requests additional training or guidance as needed.
  • Informs the nurse if NAI has never performed the task or has performed it infrequently.
  • Complies with communication method between RN and NAI.
  • Reports care results to RN in a timely manner.
  • Complies with emergency action plans.
  • Participation in Agency’s other mandated activities as requested by Agency Director such as In-Services.
  • Supports and executes the mission, ethics, and goals of the company effectively.
  • All clinical documentation must be completed accurately and submitted timely per agency policy/guidelines.
  • Represents themselves in a positive and professional manner in the company and community.
  • Adheres to dress code with a clean and neat professional appearance.
  • Reports on time and as scheduled in order to complete work within designated time.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures outlines in the Employee Handbook, Employees Agreement, or communicated from executive team.
Requirements
  • Resume listing completed education, training and previous employment that can be verified, including job title held Ability to pass reference checks or verification of previous employment; Diploma issued by an approved certification/program/accredited school - proof of successful completion of a state-approved Nurse Aide I Training and Competency Evaluation Program (NAT/CEP)) or alternately, an approved Reciprocity application
  • An unencumbered state certification to practice as a Nurse Aide I
  • Have professional experience required per state regulations to perform the job as described.
  • Provide copy of current TB results or Chest X-Ray.
  • Provide copy of current CPR.
  • Documentation of Hepatitis B immunization or declination
  • Airborne and bloodborne pathogen training completion, including annual updates, in compliance with 29 CFR 1910 and in accordance with the MGA's infection control policies
  • Be flexible, organized and have the ability to exercise sound judgement to perform the job duties/responsibilities as described.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to regularly, sit, stand, stop, bend, kneel, walk, balance, crouch, crawl, push, pull and reach with hands and arms and other physical activities as deemed necessary by job duties.
  • Vision and Hearing capabilities within normal limits, with or without aid.
  • Ability to frequently lift and or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift or move 100 pounds or more if applicable.
  • Ability to perform the anticipated level of physical assist required to provide safe client care. If the anticipated level of assist is greater than that which the employee can safely provide, the supervisor is to be notified immediately.
Work Environment
  • The work environment is highly variable, as care is generally provided in private homes.
  • Lighting, acoustics, air quality, temperature and environment hazards are not predictable.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, household pets/animals, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The employee is required to travel frequently to complete home health visits.
