Job summary

Broken Arrow Public Schools is seeking a CN Appliance Technician to oversee preventative maintenance, installation and repair of commercial kitchen equipment in the Child Nutrition Department. The role requires strong knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, electrical and data control systems as they relate to kitchen appliances.

The Technician will diagnose issues, perform major/minor repairs, manage parts inventories, and prioritize repair tasks to minimize downtime while upholding safety standards

Qualifications

JOB TITLE: CN Appliance Technician

DEPARTMENT: Operations/Maintenance

REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time, 12-month contract

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Universal Certification as a Refrigeration Technician by the EPA; certificate in Refrigeration Technology; certificate in HVACR; associates or technical degree preferred

Experience: Minimum 5 years journeyman experience in commercial kitchen appliance repairs and maintenance; completion of 2-year apprenticeship program preferred

Skills: Working knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment including hoods, ice machines, ranges, convection ovens, hot cabinets, coolers/freezers, fryers, dishwashers, disposals, toasters, steamers, warmers and cook tops; operating knowledge of refrigerant recovery equipment, vacuum pump gauges, scales, electronic leak detectors; comprehensive understanding of refrigeration and HVAC controls, systems devices & shop theory to include air distribution, HVAC and refrigeration electronics, pneumatic HVAC systems, thermal controls, HVAC and refrigeration safety; working knowledge of Oklahoma Health Department regulations; must possess advanced mechanical skills and ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics and O/M manuals; must possess expertise in 460 volt, AC circuit and advanced troubleshooting skills; personal computer, keyboarding, and computerized maintenance software skill

SUMMARY: Responsible for overseeing and performing preventative maintenance, equipment installation, troubleshooting and repairing commercial kitchen appliances. A comprehensive knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, electrical and data control systems as integrated with commercial kitchen equipment is required.

• Analyze troubleshoot, install, rebuild, adjust, repair or replace all types of commercial kitchen appliance equipment as required.
• Perform major and/or minor repair, as well as preventative and corrective maintenance of kitchen equipment.
• Order and maintain inventory of appliance parts as needed.
• Inspect and verify the operation and safety of commercial kitchen appliances.
• Coordinates and prioritizes repair tasks, responding in a timely manner to provide appropriate repairs with as little downtime as possible.
• Attends new equipment training, training staff and demonstrating proper safe use and operation of equipment to staff.
• Identifies, reports and corrects unsafe conditions and practices. Recognizes the importance of safety in the workplace, follows safety rules, practices safe work habits, utilizes appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
• Identifies, documents and notifies supervisors of damage, abuse and negligent use of equipment.
• Tracks work orders and communicates status to appropriate personnel.
• Assists in management of warranties.
• Assists in development of preventive maintenance programs based on industry and manufacturer standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

ATTENDANCE STATEMENT:

Able to be in attendance for assigned responsibilities with 95% attendance.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:Job duties will be performed in wet/humid conditions unrelated to the weather, extremes of hot and cold weather conditions (outdoors). Work required near moving mechanical parts, in enclosed areas, and in high/precarious places; duties performed include a risk of electrical shock, exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, vibration and noise.
