Job summary

SOCOTEC is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support testing of soils, concrete, aggregates, and asphalt for construction materials projects.

The role requires accurate data recording, adherence to ASTM/AASHTO procedures, and ability to work independently or as part of a team. Training may be provided for qualified candidates with relevant aptitude and safety awareness.

Qualifications

• 6 months–2 years of laboratory testing experience preferred.
• Familiarity with ASTM/AASHTO testing methods.
• ATTI/ASTM/AASHTO soils & aggregates certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt per standards.
• Receive, sample, split, process, and prepare materials for testing.
• Accurately record, calculate, and report test results.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, testing areas, and QC documentation.
• Ensure testing complies with safety requirements and procedures.

Job description

• Perform laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and company procedures.
• Conduct testing including Proctor compaction, sieve analysis, Atterberg Limits, sand equivalent, uncompacted voids, compression testing, and other standard laboratory procedures.
• Perform asphalt testing including ignition oven, Marshall/Gyratory, maximum theoretical density (Rice), and related testing methods.
• Receive, sample, split, process, and prepare materials for testing.
• Accurately record, calculate, and report test results.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, testing areas, and quality control documentation.
• Ensure testing is performed in accordance with applicable standards, safety requirements, and laboratory procedures.
• Assist with laboratory operations and other duties as assigned.
• Six months to 2 years' experience performing laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, and/or asphalt materials preferred.
• Knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, and industry-standard laboratory testing procedures.
• ATTI/ASTM/AASHTO Soils and Aggregate certification preferred.
• Training may be provided for qualified candidates with relevant experience and aptitude.
• Required Skills
• Strong mathematical skills and ability to perform testing calculations accurately.
• Basic computer proficiency and experience entering and maintaining testing data.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds on a regular basis as part of daily laboratory operations.
