Job summary

SOCOTEC, Inc. is seeking a Laboratory Technician to perform testing of soils, concrete, aggregate, and asphalt materials in support of construction materials testing projects. You will conduct tests, maintain records, and ensure compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, and project requirements.

Responsibilities include performing Proctor compaction, sieve analysis, Atterberg Limits, and asphalt testing. You will receive, sample, split, and prepare materials, record results, and maintain QC documentation

Qualifications

• Strong mathematical skills and ability to perform testing calculations accurately.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to operate laboratory equipment and record data accurately.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt according to ASTM/AASHTO procedures.
• Conduct Proctor compaction, sieve analysis, Atterberg Limits, sand equivalent, and related tests.
• Perform asphalt testing including ignition oven, Marshall/Gyratory, and RMD/RTD methods.
• Receive, sample, split, and prepare materials for testing.
• Accurately record, calculate, and report test results.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and quality control documentation.
• Ensure testing complies with safety and procedural standards.
• Assist with laboratory operations and other duties as assigned.

Job Description

We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to perform testing of soils, concrete, aggregate, and asphalt materials in support of construction materials testing projects. This position is responsible for conducting laboratory tests, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with applicable ASTM, AASHTO, and project requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and company procedures.
• Conduct testing including Proctor compaction, sieve analysis, Atterberg Limits, sand equivalent, uncompacted voids, compression testing, and other standard laboratory procedures.
• Perform asphalt testing including ignition oven, Marshall/Gyratory, maximum theoretical density (Rice), and related testing methods.
• Receive, sample, split, process, and prepare materials for testing.
• Accurately record, calculate, and report test results.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, testing areas, and quality control documentation.
• Ensure testing is performed in accordance with applicable standards, safety requirements, and laboratory procedures.
• Assist with laboratory operations and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Experience performing laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, and/or asphalt materials preferred.
• Knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, and industry-standard laboratory testing procedures.
• ATTI/ASTM/AASHTO Soils and Aggregate certification preferred.
• Training may be provided for qualified candidates with relevant experience and aptitude.

Required Skills

• Strong mathematical skills and ability to perform testing calculations accurately.
• Basic computer proficiency and experience entering and maintaining testing data.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds on a regular basis as part of daily laboratory operations.
