Job summary

TOMZ Corporation in Big Lake, MN is seeking a skilled CMM Programmer/Metrologist to develop and maintain metrology programs for inspecting production materials and components. You will design fixtures, verify programs for bias and reproducibility, and support data collection and calibration to ensure measurement accuracy across R&D, Manufacturing and QA using Calypso or Open DMIS.

Proven ability to read GD&T, work with ASME Y14.5 standards, and coordinate with cross-functional teams is essential

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of geometric dimensions and tolerances ASME Y14.5.
  • Proficiency with CMMs, Vision Systems and related tools.
  • Strong English communication, both verbal and written.
  • Experience with Calypso CMM or Open DMIS software.
  • Ability to work across R&D, Manufacturing and QA.
  • Experience with 3D modeling and drafting.
  • Familiarity with GMP/ISO standards is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, verify, and operate automated inspection programs for first piece, in-process and final inspections.
  • Prove out programs to minimize measurement bias and errors.
  • Maintain automated inspection machines, probes, and scales.

Salary Range: $100,000.00 To $130,000.00 Annually

TOMZ is looking for a highly skilled CMM Programmer/Metrologist to join our team in Big Lake, MN!

Summary of Position:

This position will be responsible for developing, maintaining and generating CMM and other metrology programs used to inspect and verify production materials and components. Designs, develops and procures work holding and functional gages. Reviews drawings and specifications to establish correct inspection criteria following best practices. Subject matter expertise in programming languages such as Calypso (preferred) or PC-DMIS as well as GD&T and other relevant ANSI/ASME, or ISO standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops, verifies, and operates automated inspection programs for first piece, in-process, and final inspections.
  • Proves out programs limiting risk of measurement bias, linearity, reproducibility and reproducibility errors.
  • Understands Alpha and Beta measurement risks and provides appropriate feedback.
  • Maintains automated inspection machines to include probe qualifications, regular cleaning, and inspection of scales.
  • Design and procures fixtures needed to hold products for inspection during product development; sets criteria for instruments and specifications.
  • Supports automatic data collection from measurement equipment to the inspection plans.
  • Supports the development of inspection methods, tool mapping, First Article Inspections (FAI's), and in process checks for manufacturing.
  • Revises inspection programs and documents based on engineering changes, as required.
  • Supports root cause investigation as applicable to automated inspection function, tooling, and programs.
  • Supports Gage R&R (Repeatability and Reproducibility) and other Measurement System Analysis (MSA) studies.
  • Supports calibration of inspection and measurement equipment to ensure traceability to national/international standards; coordinates or performs calibration activities as needed.
  • Develops work instruction and conducts training of designated automated inspection equipment for operators.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and the ability to read geometric dimensions and tolerances ASME Y14.5.
  • Knowledge of precision measuring instruments and their application, including but not limited to, CMMs, Vision Systems, and Contracers.
  • Strong verbal and written English language communication skills.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office (i.e.Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Adobe PDF,
  • Experience in 3D modeling and drafting
  • Experience with Calypso CMM or Open DMIS software
  • Ability to work with a variety of functional areas, including R&D, Manufacturing, and QA, as required accomplishing results with minimal guidance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Regulated manufacturing industry experience (e.g. Aerospace, Defense, Med Device, Pharmaceutical, etc.)
  • Knowledge of and experience with GMP/ISO standards.
  • Experience with CT scanning, White Light and 3D metrology
  • Experience with PC DMIS or Geomeasure
  • Associate's degree preferred or equivalent directly- transferable work experience (Manufacturing or Engineering discipline preferred).

Education:

  • Drafting / GD&T
  • CMM programming
  • CAD modeling
  • Vision System programming

Experience:

  • Minimum of3years of direct experience working with advanced metrology equipment.

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel outside of the workplace is possible for up to 10% of the year.
  • Flexibility is needed for last-minute emergencies.
  • Travel may include multiple overnight stays and may occasionally require weekend commitments.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds. Team lift or mechanical assistance required for objects over 50 pounds.
  • Perform keyboard entries with frequent operation of a computer.
  • The ability to wear safety equipment such as cut resistant gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, and slip resistant shoes.
