Job summary

Precision Castparts is seeking a CMM Operator to load and run CMM programs, position castings, and verify dimensional accuracy against specifications. You will interpret technical docs, follow SOPs, and document results. The role demands careful attention to measurement detail and safety practices in a manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate can read blueprints, understand GD&T, and operate related equipment such as forklifts for material handling. Training is provided on the job.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, follow and interpret SOPs, Quality Control Manuals, Technique Cards, and technical specifications.
• Basic math and geometry skills, with emphasis on dimensional measurements.
• Ability to read blueprints and interpret GD&T.
• Capable of physically performing essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Position castings on the automated CMM from instructions.
• Load the appropriate programs into the CMM per tech cards or SOPs.
• Operate CMM hardware and software; monitor programs and respond to errors.
• Evaluate inspection printouts for consistency with specifications.
• Generate and maintain inspection documentation and reports.

Job description

Mission

To operate CMM's utilizing software programs to measure dimensions on castings and fixtures, verifies measurement printouts from Tech Card information for non-conforming parts to meet PCC and customer specifications.

Principal Accountabilities

• CMM Operations

Objective: to operate the CMM's to effectively and accurately inspect casting dimensions and ensure dimensional integrity; to measure dimensions for balancing and positioning of castings.

Essential Job Functions

• Works from instructions to position castings on the automated CMM.
• Selects and loads appropriate programs into the machine, per tech cards or SOP's.
• Initiates and monitors programs; operates CMM computers and equipment.
• Responds to computer instructions and error messages during CMM operations.
• Inspection Evaluation

Objective: to evaluate CMM computer inspection printouts for consistency with customer specifications and PCC standards.

Inspection Evaluation List

• Reviews and interprets CMM inspection printouts.
• Determines necessary rework. (LSBO only, marginal at TBO, SSBO)
• Marks parts for rework operations.
• Supplies reports and documentation on compliance with specifications.
• Generates layout inspection report on computer. (TBO only)

Checks and troubleshoots inspection programs. (TBO only)

Tech Card Updates

• Generate new tech cards; upgrade older tech cards. (TBO only)
• Generates airfoil contour plots and other specialized computer generated output. (SSBO only)
• Safety

Objective: to take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.

Safety

• Adheres to plant and department safety rules.
• Safely operates all equipment and tools.
• Identifies and reports safety problems.
• Completes all logs and records.
• Meets all production and quality standards.

• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), with geometry and trigonometry preferred.
• Ability to read, follow and interpret blueprints.
• Ability to perform geometric dimensioning and trouncing preferred.
• Computer data entry and operation experience preferred.computer programming experience preferred. (TBO only)
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
