Summary

Inspects tools, molds, design gauges, test stands, fixtures, templates, set-up devices, and related items for workmanship, material, completeness, and conformance to drawings or specifications. Inspects products, including first pieces, prototypes, and pre-production models, to evaluate and approve development and manufacturing processes.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Inspect tools, molds, gauges, test stands, fixtures, templates, set-up devices, and related items for workmanship and conformance.
  • Inspect products as required, including first pieces, prototypes, and other parts used in development and manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and shop personnel to facilitate fabrication and inspection techniques.
  • Work from prints, specifications, and instructions, sometimes performing inspections without design gauges or drawings.
  • Possess knowledge of tool design, shop operations, and inspection instruments, including programming capabilities for inspection equipment.
  • Perform precise measurements, including cumulative and calculated dimensions.
  • Set up and operate inspection instruments, including multi-axis measuring machines and gages.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies.
Must Have
  • US Citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain a US DOE Q-level security clearance.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to work any shift.
  • Knowledge of shop mathematics, including geometry and trigonometry, or equivalent experience or training.
Valued Skills
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical gaging and repair potential.
  • Formal machinist training from vocational or trade school.
  • Experience with hand gages such as calipers, micrometers, and thread gages.
  • Ability to analyze data and perform in-process inspections.
  • Technical coursework in calculus is a plus.
