Role Description

The CMM / 3D Scanner Quality Inspector is a full-time, on-site role based at Schwab Industries, Inc. in Macomb Township, MI. This role is responsible for performing dimensional inspections using CMMs and 3D scanning equipment to verify parts against engineering drawings, CAD models, and customer specifications. Daily tasks include setting up and operating CMM and 3D scanning systems, creating and running inspection programs, and interpreting measurement results to ensure product conformance. The inspector prepares clear inspection reports, documents nonconformances, and collaborates with engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve issues and support continuous improvement. The role also involves maintaining inspection equipment, following established quality procedures, and supporting audits and customer requirements.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with CMM operation and programming, including use of 3D scanning equipment for dimensional inspection.
• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and CAD models for automotive and aerospace components.
• Proficiency in quality inspection methods, including measurement techniques, data collection, and preparation of inspection reports.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as stamping, tooling, machining, and metal fabrication, and their impact on part quality.
• Effective problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to identify, document, and help resolve nonconformances.
• Competence with computer-based tools and inspection software; experience with common CMM/3D scanning software is preferred.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work on-site, stand for extended periods, and handle precision components and equipment safely.
• Previous experience in automotive or aerospace quality inspection is highly beneficial.
• Relevant technical training or certification in metrology, quality inspection, or a related field; an associate degree in a technical discipline is a plus.
