Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is seeking a part-time CMHCS Resource Nurse RN. This role requires providing professional nursing care within the Lamesa Smith Unit, supervising clinic personnel, and ensuring compliance with medical standards.

The preferred candidate will need a current R.N. license and must have graduated from an accredited nursing program. This position involves direct patient contact in a correctional setting and necessitates strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide care to patients at the Lamesa Smith Unit.
• Administer medications as ordered and maintain knowledge of patient care.
• Utilize Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for patient data communication.
• Prepare equipment for examinations and procedures.
• Complete documentation for incoming/outgoing patients.
• Monitor and maintain patient care areas and equipment.
• Serve as relief charge nurse as needed.
• Communicate with physicians as necessary.

CMHCS Resource Nurse RN

Employees in this classification perform responsible professional nursing care at a unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Responsible for the care and treatment of patients in accordance with accepted nursing and medical standards. Supervises other subordinate clinic personnel. Work is performed under correctional clinic conditions; the position requires a high degree of contact with patients, other clinic personnel and outside professionals.

Major / Essential Functions

• Responsible for providing care to patients at the Lamesa Smith Unit.
• Administers medications as ordered, adheres to facility policy and procedure of medication administration and will maintain knowledge of appropriate dosages, reactions and contraindications of medications.
• Communicates patient data using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to support decision-making to improve patient care.
• Prepares and operates necessary equipment and instruments for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
• Assists in completing required documentation for incoming/outgoing patients including obtaining accurate patient histories.
• Inspects and monitors equipment; inspects and ensures maintenance of patient care areas, equipment and supplies, and medication refrigerator.
• Serves as a relief charge nurse when needed, delegating tasks to lower level nursing staff.
• Communicates with Physicians or Advanced Practice Providers as needed, and calls report when transferring patients to another unit or hospital. Notifies provider(s) of any significant incidents.

Required Qualifications

• License/Certification: Current R.N. license approved by the Texas State Board of Nursing or ability to transfer current R.N. license to Texas.
• Education: Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program.
