Job description

CMHCS Resource Nurse RN

Employees in this classification perform responsible professional nursing care at a unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Responsible for the care and treatment of patients in accordance with accepted nursing and medical standards. Supervises other subordinate clinic personnel. Work is performed under correctional clinic conditions; the position requires a high degree of contact with patients, other clinic personnel, and outside professionals.

Major Functions

• Provide care to patients at the Lamesa Smith Unit.
• Administer medications as ordered and maintain knowledge of dosages, reactions, and contraindications.
• Communicate patient data using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to support decision-making and improve patient care.
• Prepare and operate necessary equipment and instruments for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
• Assist in completing required documentation for incoming/outgoing patients, including obtaining accurate patient histories.
• Inspect and monitor equipment and ensure maintenance of patient care areas, equipment, supplies, and medication refrigerator.
• Serve as relief charge nurse when needed, delegating tasks to lower level nursing staff.
• Communicate with Physicians or Advanced Practice Providers as needed and report when transferring patients. Notify provider(s) of any significant incidents.

Qualifications

• License/Certification: Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas State Board of Nursing or ability to transfer current R.N. license to Texas.
• Education: Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program.
