Job summary

Parkland Health is looking for a skilled Registered Nurse in Dallas, Texas to provide patient-centered care and support within their Jail Main Clinic. The ideal candidate will hold an accredited nursing degree and maintain valid RN licensure in Texas, alongside BLS certification.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a patient advocate, maintaining confidentiality and cultural preferences.
  • Completes and maintains accurate patient documentation.
  • Conducts in-service educational programs at least once a year.
  • Provides direction to non-nursing staff and acts as Charge Nurse.

Primary Purpose

Provides care to assigned patient population in accordance with established protocols and multidisciplinary plan of care utilizing independent, dependent, and interdependent interventions to restore stability, prevent complications, and achieve and maintain optimal patient responses for all patients through patient centered/patient valued care.

Minimum Specifications
Education
  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
Experience
  • Must have two years of nursing experience.
Certification/Registration/Licensure
  • Must have and maintain current, valid RN license or temporary RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing; or, valid Compact RN license.
  • Must have current healthcare provider BLS for Healthcare Providers certification from one of the following:
    • American Heart Association
    • American Red Cross
    • Military Training Network
Skills or Special Abilities
  • Provides care to assigned patient population in accordance with the current State of Texas Nurse Practice Act, established protocols, multidisciplinary plan of care and clinical area specific standards.
  • Provides continuous assessment, consults with other team members as required and provides nursing care which demonstrates patient centered/patient valued care.
  • Exercises independent judgment in providing nursing care.
  • Must be able to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, families, and hospital staff in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • May be required to communicate effectively, via the overhead paging system.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to provide direction to non-nursing staff, serve as a preceptor, and serve on rotation as a Charge Nurse.
  • Must be able to prepare and conduct in-service educational programs.
  • Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.
  • As applicable, will be required to demonstrate acceptable knowledge of nursing standards of care for specialty care area.
Responsibilities
  • Serves as a patient advocate, focusing on patient needs, rights, confidentiality, and cultural preferences; maintains positive relationships with internal and external customers and provides patient care education; may participate in community outreach activities.
  • Maintains and implements knowledge of rules, regulations, policies, and laws affecting nursing practice and ensures compliance with accreditation and health plans.
  • Completes appropriate documentation; maintains accurate and timely entries in patient care records.
  • Works with staff to provide direction to non-nursing staff; serves as Charge Nurse on rotation as necessary.
  • Serves as a preceptor or trainer to newer nursing staff.
  • Prepares and conducts an in‑service educational program for the department at least once per year.
  • Identifies ways to improve work processes and patient satisfaction; makes recommendations to supervisors.
  • Stays abreast of developments in nursing practice by attending seminars, reading journals, and participating in professional organizations; maintains State of Texas licensure as a Registered Nurse.
