Job summary

Garmin is seeking a full-time CMF Engineering Intern at its U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. You will collaborate with designers, engineers and suppliers to develop and implement color, material, and finish plans for Garmin products.

Key duties include analyzing materials, staying abreast of CMF innovations, and applying technical CMF tools and processes. This internship emphasizes hands-on CMF design, testing data interpretation, and cross-functional teamwork.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or other related field.
• Excellent academics (GPA ≥ 3.0).
• Knowledge of key materials measurement techniques (metallography, SEM/EDS, X-ray, FTIR, DSC, TGA).
• Academic knowledge of PVD, CVD, electroplating and surface treatments.
• Understanding CMF standards and procedures.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, research, design and develop new materials, colors, finishes for relevant market segments.
• Collaborate with CMF designers, suppliers, engineers, and manufacturers worldwide.
• Stay current on advances in material innovation and technology.
• Demonstrate CMF troubleshooting tools (e.g., SEM, DSC, TGA, DMA, FTIR, SEM/EDS).
• Read, interpret CMF test data, contribute to CMF processes/libraries, and present CMF explorations.
• Understand and apply CMF technical drawings and documentation.
