Job summary

Medical Associates East Campus in Dubuque, IA seeks a full-time CMA, LPN or RN for the General Surgery department. Ideal candidates have strong communication and can thrive in a fast-paced setting. Surgical experience is a plus. Primary schedule is Monday through Friday, 80 hours per pay period, with no weekends or holidays.

The role covers surgical scheduling, patient care, vitals, education, and collaboration with the care team. A comprehensive benefits package accompanies this position.

Qualifications

• Experience: From three months to one year in a similar role.
• Education: Two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course or certification.
• Must possess CMA/CCMA/RMA certification or be able to obtain it within 6 months, or have LPN/RN licensure.

Responsibilities

• Schedule surgeries and assist with procedures, maintaining sterile technique and post-operative care.
• Room patients, collect vitals and histories, educate patients.
• Review records, coordinate with physician to meet patient needs.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team per plan of care.
• Communicate effectively with patients and staff.
• Document care provided and assist with medical record integrity.
• Assist with billing and insurance requirements and ensure equipment readiness.
• Maintain a safe, organized office environment and participate in meetings.

The General Surgery department at Medical Associates East Campus is hiring a full-time, CMA, LPN or RN. Ideal candidates will have excellent communication skills and enjoy working at a fast pace. Previous surgical experience a plus!

Primary Schedule:

Job Duties:

• Scheduling surgeries, assisting with surgical procedures, use of sterile technique, post-operative care.
• Use excellent patient care skills to room patients, collect vitals and histories, and patient education.
• Collect pertinent patient health care data, diagnostic testing, treatments, and review medical records and confer with physician to ensure patient needs are met.
• Collaborate with health care team according to plan of care.
• Communicate effectively with patients, co-workers, and others.
• Promote patient wellness and provide patient education.
• Document care provided, including but not limited to: interventions, medication, patient education, and assist with integrity of medical record.
• Facilitate reimbursement of services provided, including but not limited to: charge tickets, referrals, and insurance requirements.
• Maintain an office environment that is safe, neat, organized, and supplied with necessary equipment, instruments, supplies, and educational materials. Ensure equipment is functioning safely and properly. Perform cleaning and maintenance of equipment according to guidelines.
• Demonstrate flexibility in performing other additional duties of patient care. Provide input for devising systems to improve quality and efficiency of patient care and workflow. Participate in required meetings.
• Complete all other assigned projects and duties.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Experience - From three months to one year of similar or related experience. Education - Equivalent to a two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study or certification at a business or trade school. Must possess a current certification or registration as a Certified Medical Assistant (e.g., CMA through AAMA, CCMA through NHA, or RMA through AMT) or be able to obtain it within 6 months of hire. OR valid LPN/RN licensure required. Interpersonal Skills - A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary. Other Skills - Keyboarding skills and use of electronic equipment. Use and operate a wide variety of diagnostic and medical equipment. Use personal protection safety equipment including gloves, lab coats, gowns, goggles, and face masks/shields.
