Job summary

Duke Clinic, part of the Duke University Health System in Durham, NC, is hiring a Certified Medical Assistant for a gastroenterology clinic. The CMA will support examinations, collect specimens, prepare patients, and assist physicians in procedures within a busy GI team.

The role requires completion of an accredited MA program (Level I–III), BLS certification, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program is strongly preferred for Level I, or equivalent.
Graduation from an accredited MA program (CAAHEP/ABHES) is strongly preferred for Level II.
Graduation from an accredited MA program (CAAHEP/ABHES) is strongly preferred for Level III.

Responsibilities

Assist medical and nursing staff in a variety of tasks including taking histories and recording vital signs.
Explain treatment procedures to patients and prepare them for examinations.
Assist physician during examinations and procedures and collect laboratory specimens.
Perform basic laboratory tests and dispose of contaminated supplies.
Prepare and administer medications as directed and handle telephone prescriptions.
Draw blood and prepare patients for x-rays and procedures.
Update and file patient records and schedule appointments.
Handle billing and bookkeeping and arrange for hospital admissions or laboratory services.
