Job summary

Duke Health is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant for the Duke GI Clinic in Durham, NC. The CMA will be part of a healthcare team providing direct and indirect patient care in a busy outpatient setting.

Key duties include taking histories, recording vitals, assisting in examinations, collecting specimens, performing basic lab tests, ECGs, and helping with education and documentation. Day shifts, Monday–Friday, with equal emphasis on clinical and administrative responsibilities.

Qualifications

• BLS required.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Graduation from a CMA program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES preferred.
• High school or GED graduation required.

Responsibilities

• Take medical histories and record vital signs.
• Explain procedures and prepare patients for examinations.
• Assist physicians and nursing staff during examinations and procedures.
• Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and perform basic in-clinic tests.
• Take ECGs, remove sutures/staples, and dress wounds.
• Greet patients, schedule appointments, and handle referrals and billing.
