Job summary

UnityPoint Health is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) for Mills Civic Family Medicine in West Des Moines, IA. This full-time role supports patient exams, care coordination, and a positive clinic experience from Tue-Fri, 7:00 AM–5:30 PM, with Mondays off and no evenings or holidays.

You will welcome patients, prepare them for visits, and assist providers with exams, treatments, and documentation in the EHR, contributing to high-quality, personalized care for families in the community.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program (certificate, diploma, or AS) is required.
• Certified or Registered Medical Assistant through one of the following bodies: NHA, AAMA, NCT, NCMA, NAHP, ARMA, AAH, AMT.
• Prior experience in a clinical or outpatient setting preferred.
• Familiarity with EPIC is a plus.
• Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians and advanced practice providers during patient exams, treatments, and procedures.
• Room patients, obtain and document patient histories, vital signs, and other pertinent clinical information in the EHR.
• Perform point-of-care testing, specimen collection, and other clinical tasks within scope of practice.
• Administer medications, immunizations, and treatments per scope of licensure.
• Prepare patients for exams and provide support throughout their visit.
• Educate patients on medications, treatments, preventive care, and follow-up instructions.
• Coordinate referrals, follow-up care, and communication with patients as needed.
• Support ongoing care for patients with acute and chronic health conditions.
• Assist with maintaining efficient patient flow and a positive clinic experience.
• Ensure a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment.
