Job summary

Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen, TX is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist or MT/MLT with ASCP certification or eligible within 90 days for night shift. This full-time role performs tests on blood, tissues and other bodily fluids to aid diagnosis, maintains quality control, and documents results to support clinician decisions.

Requirements include ASCP or equivalent preferred, 1 year hospital lab experience preferred, and a bachelor’s degree in a health science field or CLIA-compliant

Qualifications

• ASCP certification or equivalent preferred.
• One year hospital laboratory work experience preferred, but not required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or CLIA requirements.
• Current and valid state license if required.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests on blood, tissues, and other bodily fluids to aid in the diagnosis of diseases and conditions, including routine and specialized tests.
• Interpret lab test results and identify abnormalities to assist doctors in making informed patient-care decisions.
• Implement and monitor quality control procedures; calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Keep accurate and detailed records of all laboratory tests and input data into the laboratory information systems.
• Ensure all laboratory operations comply with hospital policies, governmental regulations, and accreditation requirements.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution

ASCP certification, or equivalent, preferred

Current and Valid State License if required

Hours: 8 hour shifts

Location: Harlingen Medical Center - Harlingen, TX

Responsibilities

• If you are a licensed Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or if you will be obtaining your ASCP certification in MLS, MT, or MLT within 90 days, you are encouraged to apply for this position.


• Perform laboratory tests on blood, tissues, and other bodily fluids to aid in the diagnosis of diseases and conditions, this may include routine tests as well as specialized tests


• Interpret lab test results and identify any abnormalities, ensure the accuracy and reliability of these results to assist doctors in making informed decisions about patient care


• Implement and monitor quality control procedures to maintain high standards in laboratory testing, you may also calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment


• Keep accurate and detailed records of all laboratory tests performed and their results, input data into our laboratory information systems


• Ensure all laboratory operations comply with hospital policies, governmental regulations, and accreditation requirements

Qualifications

• ASCP certification, or equivalent, preferred.

• Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1423).


• Current and Valid State License if the laboratory is located in a state where required.
