Job summary

NJ TRANSIT seeks a Manager, Technical Cloud to oversee AWS cloud services and on‑prem VMware, shaping our long‑term cloud architecture and migration roadmap. You will work with application teams to understand workloads and prioritize migrations while ensuring uptime, reliability, and safety of critical systems.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in CS and 10+ years in IT leadership with strong AWS/VMware experience, IaC skills (Terraform/CloudFormation), and scripting (Python/PowerShell).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related area; 10 years of supervisory IT tech experience.
• 5+ years cloud/virtualization engineering; 2+ years in leadership.
• Strong hands-on AWS experience with EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, RDS, CloudWatch.
• Solid VMware experience (vSphere/ESXi, HA/DRS, storage, networking).
• IaC experience with Terraform or CloudFormation; scripting (Python, PowerShell, Bash).
• Experience in early cloud journeys or transitioning from legacy infra.

Responsibilities

• Oversee AWS cloud services and on‑prem VMware footprint to ensure stability.
• Collaborate with application teams to prioritize migration candidates.
• Coordinate with AWS, VMware, and vendors for support and design.
• Lead incident response and improve MTTR across cloud and on‑prem.
• Establish capacity planning and governance for cloud resources.
• Drive cost management and modernization initiatives gradually.
