Job summary

LCRA is seeking an experienced cloud infrastructure professional to join our Austin team as a System Engineer focused on Azure Cloud Infrastructure. You will support projects, operations, and maintenance of Azure services including VMs, VNETs, WAF, DDoS, and PaaS, ensuring secure, scalable deployments across the region.

The role emphasizes hands-on Azure PaaS and IaaS work, strong governance, and cross-team collaboration with engineering, security, and application teams.

Qualifications

• Nine or more years of experience in designing and/or operating networks or relevant experience.
• A degree in information technology, computer science, or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Build, configure, and optimize Azure Virtual Machines and supporting infrastructure, including Azure PaaS services for hosting and managing modern web applications.
• Design, implement, and maintain Azure Virtual Networks, including routing, segmentation, and network security controls.
• Apply strong security and identity management practices across Azure resources, including RBAC, managed identities, and conditional access.
• Manage Azure Storage solutions and backup strategies to ensure resilience, data protection, and efficient lifecycle management.
• Implement, tune, and maintain firewall policies, DDoS Protection, and Web Application Firewall configurations for secure cloud operations.
• Lead and support cloud migration efforts, ensuring smooth transitions of workloads, systems, and services into Azure with minimal downtime.

We are hiring a system engineer that will support the projects, operations and maintenance of our Azure Cloud Infrastructure which provides reliable services to people across the expanding LCRA region. Our ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in Azure Cloud Services systems and a solid background in VNETs, App Services, Storage, DDoS, WAF, PaaS. How You’ll Contribute

How You’ll Stand Out

• Demonstrated expertise building, migrating, and maintaining Azure PaaS environments, including Virtual Machines, VNETs, firewalls, backups, and identity/security controls.
• Strong hands-on experience with Azure PaaS services supporting web applications, ensuring resilient, scalable, and secure deployments.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and optimize cloud network architectures, including routing, subnetting, VPNs, WAF, and DDoS protection.
• Solid background in cloud governance, infrastructure design, and solution architecture—capable of driving projects with minimal supervision.
• Clear communication and documentation skills, enabling effective cross-team collaboration with engineering, security, and application teams.
• Self-starter mindset with the ability to contribute immediately, quickly adapt to complex environments, and deliver reliable cloud solutions.
