Location: Fairlane North 2 (FN2), Dearborn, MI (Fully Remote)
Duration: Long term contract (Ext possible)
Role Overview
This contractor will get engineering simulation software (CAE) running in a secure Azure Government cloud for Ford’s defense business. The first phase is onboarding CAE applications that run on virtual desktops, along with the license servers behind them. Over time, the role grows these one-off deployments into a connected engineering application environment. The person works with Ford Engineering, Enterprise Technology, the ISI team, software vendors, and outside service providers to keep everything secure, properly licensed, and supported. The blend of hands‑on CAE tool experience, Azure Government cloud, and license and cost management is unusual and (hard to find).
Key Responsibilities
- Collect and document what each application needs (installers, infrastructure, dependencies, user groups, licensing, authentication, install order), then work with ISI to install and configure CAE tools in Windows 365 / Azure Virtual Desktop.
- Spot applications that need extra infrastructure (license servers, databases, integrations, HPC, specialized VMs) and support testing, user validation, and handoff to steady‑state operations.
- Join architecture reviews and help plan integrations between CAE tools, 3DEXPERIENCE, requirements‑management platforms, and data‑transfer capabilities.
- Document current and target‑state architectures, dependencies, and who owns operations.
- Track Microsoft and Azure Government license types, SKUs, quantities, and spare capacity, and request more before capacity runs out.
- Reconcile Azure Government charges to subscriptions, applications, environments, and users, and produce recurring cost reports and billing extracts.
- Investigate unexpected usage and cost variances with Ford cloud, billing, finance, and ISI teams.
- Keep cost forecasts current as applications, infrastructure, licenses, and user counts change.
Required Qualifications
Experience:
- 7+ years installing and supporting CAE tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, ANSA, LS‑DYNA, and LS‑PREPOST (hard to find)

- Experience managing application licenses, SKUs, capacity, renewals, and usage reporting
- Ability to turn vendor infrastructure and application requirements into implementable technical designs
- US Person (US citizen or permanent resident) working from the US
