Job Title: Cloud Solution Architect - Security & Infrastructure Focused
Location: Richmond, VA - Remote
Duration: 1+ Months Contract (Possible to convert to full-time)
About The Role :
- The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (***) is seeking a highly skilled Cloud Solution Architect with advanced expertise in solution development to support a modern cloud-based ecosystem. This role involves implementing technology solutions that enhance business decision-making and processes across all business units, in alignment with the agency's architectural roadmap and enterprise goals.
- This position requires technical proficiency in cloud initiatives, adherence to software engineering best practices, leading a team of architects, and alignment with the agency's technical direction. Additionally, the role involves training teams on leveraging cloud technologies for successful adoption and implementation.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Hands-on solution development on AWS cloud networking and security aspects of all applications and data ecosystems in ***.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and convert them into actionable solution components aligned with ***'s Enterprise Solution architecture patterns, procedures, and policies.
- Design and develop scalable, resilient cloud solution architectures and engineering solutions using cloud-native services and technologies.
- Develop front-end components and back-end services to create cohesive applications within cloud and hybrid infrastructures using AWS.
- Create comprehensive solution documentation detailing design, testing, and support processes.
- Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate updates and deployments.
- Ensure solution quality through thorough testing and compliance with security policies and best practices.
- Manage configuration drift and ensure environment consistency using tools like AWS CodeBuild/Deploy and AWS CloudFormation.
- Apply DevOps principles to streamline SDLC and enhance automation.
- Deploy solutions, establish monitoring, and ensure operational stability and resiliency through testing and enhancements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand change requirements and ensure solutions meet business needs.
- Identify opportunities for innovation and process improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
Qualifications include:
- Expertise in Cloud Solutions: Design, implement, and maintain cloud and on-premises solutions using approved tools.
- Proficiency in Cloud Platforms: Strong experience with cloud services, especially AWS and Azure.
- API Development: Skilled in designing, developing, and maintaining APIs (e.g., AWS API Gateway).
- Cloud Networking and Security: Knowledge of VPCs, subnets, security groups, IAM, and AWS security services like Security Hub, Macie, GuardDuty, Inspector, Config, Detective, and Access Analyzer.
- Networking and Security: Experience with WAF and related AWS services.
- Serverless Computing: Experience with AWS Lambda and event-driven architectures.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Automate infrastructure provisioning using AWS CloudFormation and Terraform.
- Networking Design & Security: Deep understanding of networking, security, governance, and compliance.
- Monitoring & Logging: Set up alerts, dashboards, and logs for cloud infrastructure and applications.
- DevOps Practices: Develop and optimize CI/CD pipelines, version control, and collaboration tools.
- Compliance: Adhere to agency policies and procedures.
Additional Considerations:
- Advanced expertise in cloud architecture, software engineering (API design, algorithms), scripting (Python/NodeJS), serverless, containers, orchestration, and DevOps is required.
- Strong communication, training, and collaboration skills are vital for success.
- Analytical mindset and problem-solving skills are essential for troubleshooting, process optimization, and automation.
- AWS Certified Solution Architect Professional and at least one AWS Specialty certification (networking or security) are preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Hands-on experience with AWS cloud solutions, security, and infrastructure services (12+ years).
- API development for cloud environments (12+ years).
- Containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) (12+ years).
- Infrastructure automation with CloudFormation (12+ years).
- DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, version control (12+ years).
- Network design, security, and management in AWS, including VPCs, Lambdas, API Gateway, WAF, CloudFront (10+ years).
- Building monitoring and logging dashboards using AWS services (10+ years).
- Securing inter-VPC traffic and resource access (10+ years).
- Experience with AWS Lambda, EventBridge, and Managed Workflows (10+ years).
- AWS Solution Architect, Network, and Security Specialty certifications are highly desirable.
