Job summary

The Allen Institute is launching a Brain Health Accelerator and seeks a Software Engineer III, Cloud Services to design, build, and operate secure, scalable cloud infrastructure for vast neuroscience data. You will work across cross‑functional teams and external partners to enable international collaboration and rapid scientific insight.

You will lead infrastructure initiatives, ensure regulatory compliance (e.g., NIST), and optimize for performance and cost while shaping the platform for future

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/IT or equivalent
• Minimum 3 years in architecting/implementing complex cloud solutions
• Minimum 2 years operating in regulated environments (e.g., Controlled Access Data)
• Proficiency with Jira and project management tools
• Proficiency with Terraform or CloudFormation
• Proficiency with Git for source code management
• Deep understanding of AWS, Google Cloud, Azure and distributed systems

Responsibilities

• Design secure, scalable, cloud-based systems for scientific data processing
• Ensure adherence to regulatory and security standards (e.g., NIST SP 800-171)
• Guide infrastructure optimization for performance and cost
• Interface with external vendors and scientific partners
• Collaborate with cloud providers and vendors to align on architecture
• Maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and research teams
• Translate complex tech concepts for diverse audiences
• Define requirements, scope, and priorities with science teams
• Identify risks and drive mitigation strategies
• Oversee production readiness, monitoring, and incident response
• Ensure reliability/maintainability of systems
• Foster cross-functional collaboration across teams
