Job summary

The Allen Institute is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, AI/ML Platforms and Infrastructure, to lead architecture and delivery of AI training and inference services for Brain Health Accelerator scientists. You’ll work on secure, scalable platforms, support sensitive data, and partner with researchers and vendors.

You will architect cloud and on-prem solutions, mentor engineers, and drive operational excellence across cross-institutional teams, ensuring reliability, performance, and cost

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, or related fields, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum five years of experience architecting, implementing, and supporting AI/ML platforms and infrastructure; Jira proficiency.
• Proficiency with Python and shell scripting.
• Proficiency with Git for source code management.
• Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement cloud-based and on-premise solutions to support training of large-scale, multi-modality biological foundation models.
• Collaborate with external partners to design and implement training solutions with sensitive data, including federated learning feasibility assessments.
• Guide benchmarking and optimization of ML software and infrastructure, including performance tuning and cost management.
• Provide AI workflow expertise and support to science and engineering teams in Brain Health.
• Define requirements, scope, and priorities with internal and external stakeholders.
• Identify risks and drive mitigation strategies.
• Represent the Institute in technical discussions with vendors and partners.
• Build and maintain relationships with research teams, Central IT, and the CTO’s office.
