Job summary

Professional Transportation Consulting, Inc. is seeking an Infrastructure Specialist in Massachusetts to plan and execute operating system patching and related maintenance across supported environments.

You will coordinate across IT and engineering teams, validate system health before and after maintenance, and track patch status to ensure reliable operations. Required are 2+ years in Linux systems, patching experience, and familiarity with Apache, Java, and Tomcat.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in IT/CS/Programming with 2+ years of technical work experience.
• US Citizenship required; ability to obtain Security clearance if needed.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and execute OS patching and infrastructure maintenance.
• Develop patching schedules and maintenance plans with required time windows.
• Review systems before maintenance for prerequisites, dependencies, or risks.
• Coordinate maintenance with Systems, Networking, DBA, R&D, and App Support teams.
• Perform pre- and post-maintenance validation for availability and health.
• Track patch status and address failures or deferrals.
• Maintain and configure Apache, Java, Tomcat, and related components.
• Troubleshoot issues during or after scheduled maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and execute operating system patching and recurring infrastructure maintenance across supported Servigistics environments.
• Develop and maintain patching schedules and maintenance plans, coordinating activities around required system time availability.
• Review systems prior to scheduled maintenance to identify prerequisites, dependencies, exceptions, or potential risks that could affect patching activities.
• Coordinate maintenance activities with internal teams, including Systems, Networking, DBA, R&D, and Application Support.
• Perform pre-maintenance and post-maintenance validation to confirm application availability, system health, and successful completion of planned activities.
• Track patch status and identify systems that are unsuccessful, deferred, or require additional remediation.
• Maintain and configure supporting application technologies such as Apache, Java, Tomcat, and other approved third‑party components.
• Perform basic application and infrastructure troubleshooting when issues arise during or following scheduled maintenance.

Skills and Knowledge

• Strong working knowledge of Linux operating systems and Linux system administration
• Experience with operating system patching, system maintenance, and lifecycle management
• Understanding of patch planning, maintenance windows, change coordination, and post‑maintenance validation
• Experience maintaining and configuring Apache, Java, and Tomcat
• Familiarity with cloud computing technologies, including AWS and Azure
• Basic Oracle database knowledge, including select, insert, delete, and join commands
• Familiarity with ETL technologies such as Pentaho PDI
• Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to coordinate maintenance across multiple systems and environments
• Strong communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills

Preferred Background

• 2+ years of experience supporting Linux systems, cloud‑hosted environments, infrastructure operations, or system maintenance
• Experience coordinating or performing operating system patching and scheduled maintenance
• Understanding of cloud technologies
• Linux command‑line experience
• Basic Oracle skills
• Experience working with maintenance schedules, change processes, or production maintenance windows
• Experience documenting technical procedures and maintenance activities
• Basic troubleshooting skills for identifying and escalating issues encountered during maintenance
• Exposure to automation or scripting for repetitive system administration and maintenance tasks is a plus

Basic Qualifications

• Associate degree in a technical field such as IT, Computer Science, or Programming plus 2 years of technical work experience, or a bachelor's degree in a technical field such as IT, Computer Science, or Programming
• Must be a US Citizen
• Must have or be able to obtain a Security‑level clearance

Compensation

PTC carefully considers a wide variety of factors when determining compensation. The anticipated annual salary range for this position is between $65,000 - $75,000. The salary range reflects a good‑faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on a candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Additionally, candidates may be eligible for a performance‑based bonus.
