Job summary

Ally Financial is seeking a Principal Cloud Engineer to lead enterprise-wide cloud resilience, automation, and technical leadership in a regulated financial services environment. You will define strategies for multi-region architectures, chaos experiments, and recovery tooling, partnering with application teams to deliver measurable resiliency outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information System, or similar field.
• 5+ years of hands-on AWS cloud engineering or site reliability experience in a regulated environment.
• Expert knowledge of AWS reliability services including Lambda, ECS, RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB, S3, SQS, EventBridge, CloudWatch, Route 53, CloudFront, API Gateway, and VPC.
• Experience with ARC, Resilience Hub, and FIS for chaos engineering and resiliency scoring.
• Strong ability to design multi-region architectures for various recovery patterns.
• Proficiency in Terraform and CI/CD with GitLab; effective communication for executive reporting.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture discovery with stakeholders to define recovery objectives and multi-region requirements.
• Design and implement multi-region AWS patterns (Active/Active, Warm Standby, Pilot Light).
• Develop and validate ARC patterns, readiness checks, routing controls, and failover safety.
• Evaluate Resilience Hub to identify gaps and drive remediation.
• Define traffic management and failover using Route 53, CloudFront, and load balancers.
• Create reusable Terraform modules and CI/CD pipelines with GitLab.
• Conduct controlled chaos experiments and document outcomes for leadership.
• Collaborate with application teams to achieve measurable resiliency targets.
