Job summary
HP is seeking a Cloud Reliability Engineer to lead the design, deployment, and reliability of cloud platforms and services. You will drive automation, observability, incident management, and security alignment across teams to ensure scalable, secure cloud operations.
You will own SLIs/SLOs, build runbooks, and mentor teams on reliability engineering best practices while partnering with DevOps for platform capabilities and roadmaps.
Qualifications

- Typically 7-10 years of experience in distributed & cloud computing, software & cloud design, or related field.
Responsibilities
- Lead design, deployment, and management of cloud platforms and infrastructure.
- Own availability, reliability, and operational health of cloud services.
- Design and implement cloud solutions and infrastructure that protect and manage cloud-native apps and data.
- Build observability capabilities: monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting, dashboards, reliability metrics.
- Establish SLIs and SLOs and operational reliability standards.
- Lead incident response, RCA, and problem management with continuous improvement.
- Ensure production environments meet security standards via reviews, remediation, and penetration testing.
- Automate IaC, deployment, configuration management, and operational processes.
- Partner with DevOps to develop tooling and platform capabilities for cloud ops and microservices.
- Contribute to cloud platform strategy, architecture decisions, and roadmaps.
- Drive capacity planning, DR, and business continuity readiness.
- Champion CI/CD, automated testing, and reliability best practices.
- Create runbooks, standards, and architecture docs; mentor on reliability.

Cloud Reliability Engineer
This role is responsible for leading the design, engineering, deployment, and reliability of cloud platforms, infrastructure, and services. As a key member of the Cloud Reliability Engineering team, this position focuses on ensuring the availability, scalability, resiliency, security, and operational excellence of cloud-native solutions. The role drives automation, observability, incident management, and continuous improvement while partnering with engineering teams to deliver highly reliable and secure cloud services that support current and future business needs.
- Lead the design, deployment, and management of cloud platforms and infrastructure while aligning with business, architectural, and security requirements.
- Own the availability, reliability, scalability, and operational health of cloud services and platforms.
- Design and implement cloud solutions and infrastructure that protect and manage cloud-native applications and data.
- Build and own observability capabilities, including monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting, dashboards, and reliability metrics.
- Establish and maintain Service Level Indicators (SLIs), Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and operational reliability standards.
- Lead incident response, root cause analysis, problem management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure production environments meet HP security standards by coordinating security reviews, vulnerability remediation, compliance assessments, and penetration testing.
- Build standards and automate infrastructure provisioning, deployment, configuration management, and operational processes using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and DevSecOps practices.
- Partner with DevOps and engineering teams to develop tooling, automation, and platform capabilities supporting cloud operations, microservices, and distributed systems.
- Contribute to cloud platform strategy, architecture decisions, engineering roadmaps, and proof-of-concept initiatives.
- Drive capacity planning, performance optimization, disaster recovery, and business continuity readiness.
- Champion CI/CD, automated testing, and reliability engineering best practices.
- Create operational runbooks, technical standards, and architecture documentation, and provide mentorship on cloud reliability and operational excellence.
- Four-year or Graduate Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.
- Typically has 7-10 years of work experience, preferably in distributed & cloud computing, software & cloud design, programming languages, agile development methodologies, or a related field.

- Works on highly complex cloud infrastructure and distributed systems challenges where analysis requires evaluating multiple technical, operational, security, and business factors.
- Exercises substantial independent judgment in establishing reliability standards, operational policies, and engineering best practices.
- Drives resolution of critical production issues and reliability risks with enterprise-wide impact.
The pay range for this role is $130,700 to $205,200 USD annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to United States of America candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
