Job summary

SquareTrade is seeking a Mid-Level Database Administrator to manage a cloud-native PostgreSQL environment in AWS. You will collaborate across IT, Engineering, QA and Data Analytics to modernize data architecture and optimize complex SQL. Experience with SQL Server alongside PostgreSQL is valued.

The role involves 24x7 on-call rotation, hybrid Bay Area work, and a compensation range of $145K–$160K base with full benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field (or equivalent).
• 4–6 years of production PostgreSQL experience.
• Dual experience with Microsoft SQL Server alongside PostgreSQL.
• 4+ years managing AWS managed DB services (Aurora, RDS, EC2 hosting).
• Proficient with pg_dump, pg_restore, and AWS Snapshots.
• Advanced SQL: joins, indexing, CTEs, window functions.

Responsibilities

• Create, configure, monitor, and maintain PostgreSQL servers in AWS with high availability and security.
• Manage IAM and database access control; perform periodic compliance audits.
• Oversee automated backups and recovery; test disaster recovery procedures.
• Perform maintenance, patching, and major version upgrades with minimal downtime.
• Configure replication (Aurora Read Replicas, logical replication) for durability and performance.
• Collaborate with engineering on schema design, deployment, and query optimization.
• Peer-review SQL code for efficiency and security.
• Analyze performance bottlenecks to apply indexing or config changes.
• Support existing Microsoft SQL Server environments as needed.
• Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation.
