Job summary

Symmetrio is seeking a Cloud Network Engineer to design, maintain, and troubleshoot network infrastructure bridging cloud and customer environments. The role focuses on AWS networking, VPNs, IPsec and hybrid cloud setups in a fully remote US-based position with a target compensation of $135,000–$150,000.

Ideal candidates will have hands-on AWS networking experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and familiarity with Terraform or CloudFormation to support repeatable cloud deployments.

Qualifications

• 3+ years hands-on network engineering experience in hybrid cloud environments.
• Experience configuring AWS networking: VPCs, Site-to-Site VPN, Transit Gateway.
• Strong understanding of IPsec VPN technologies and Phase 1/2 negotiations.
• Experience troubleshooting NAT, routing and complex VPN connectivity issues.
• Solid knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, DNS and network security concepts.
• Experience with network troubleshooting and packet analysis tools such as Wireshark.
• Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation or other IaC tools preferred.
• Healthcare or regulated industry experience is a plus.
• Experience with HL7 or FHIR is a bonus.
• AWS, CCNP or equivalent certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot secure VPN and network connectivity across AWS and customer environments.
• Manage AWS networking infrastructure including VPCs, subnets, route tables, security groups, Network ACLs, and Transit Gateway.
• Diagnose complex network issues involving routing, NAT, VPNs, latency, and performance.
• Monitor network infrastructure and proactively identify outages or security issues.
• Perform maintenance, configuration changes, firmware updates, and security patching with minimal downtime.
• Support deployment and onboarding of new customer environments and validate connectivity.
• Coordinate configurations with customer IT and technical teams to resolve issues.
• Analyze network traffic and troubleshoot with packet capture and Wireshark.
• Use IaC to support repeatable cloud network deployments and maintain runbooks.

Job description

Symmetrio is recruiting a Cloud Network Engineer for our customer, a rapidly growing healthcare technology organization focused on advanced healthcare technology solutions.

This individual will design, maintain, and troubleshoot network infrastructure supporting secure connectivity between cloud and customer environments. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with AWS networking, VPNs, routing, and network troubleshooting in a hybrid environment, along with industry experience in healthcare IT; experience supporting oncology technology environments is especially desirable.

This is a full-time, remote position open to candidates in the United States. Target compensation is $135,000–$150,000.

Responsibilities

• Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot secure VPN and network connectivity across AWS and customer environments.
• Manage AWS networking infrastructure including VPCs, subnets, route tables, security groups, Network ACLs, and Transit Gateway.
• Diagnose complex network issues involving routing, NAT, VPN tunnels, latency, and network performance.
• Monitor network infrastructure and proactively identify issues that could impact system availability, security, or performance.
• Perform network maintenance, configuration changes, firmware updates, and security patching while minimizing service disruption.
• Support the deployment and onboarding of new customer environments, including network configuration, firewall coordination, and connectivity validation.
• Work directly with customer IT and technical teams to coordinate configurations and resolve network connectivity issues.
• Analyze network traffic and troubleshoot connectivity using packet capture and network analysis tools such as Wireshark.
• Use infrastructure-as-code technologies such as Terraform or CloudFormation to support consistent and repeatable cloud network deployments.
• Maintain network documentation, diagrams, and runbooks while contributing to improvements in network reliability, security, automation, and monitoring.

Requirements

• 3+ years of hands-on experience in network engineering, including experience with hybrid cloud environments.
• Experience configuring and supporting AWS networking technologies such as VPCs, Site-to-Site VPN, Transit Gateway, subnets, and routing.
• Strong understanding of IPsec VPN technologies, including IKEv1/IKEv2 and Phase 1 and Phase 2 negotiations.
• Experience troubleshooting NAT, routing, and complex VPN connectivity issues.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, DNS, and general network security concepts.
• Experience with network troubleshooting and packet analysis tools such as Wireshark.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work directly with technical teams and customers.
• Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or other infrastructure-as-code technologies preferred.
• Healthcare or other regulated-industry experience preferred.
• Experience with healthcare integration technologies such as HL7 or FHIR is a plus.
• AWS, CCNP, or equivalent networking/security certifications preferred.
