Job summary

Bayside Solutions, a Seattle-based technology consulting firm, is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to design, build, and migrate distributed backend services for cloud-native platforms using Java and Go.

You will develop production APIs (gRPC/REST/JSON), containerize with Docker, deploy on Kubernetes, and Collaborate with platform and infra engineers on cloud deployments, data migrations, observability, and performance improvements.

Qualifications

• Backend experience with Go or Java in production.
• Experience designing production APIs and distributed services.
• Strong knowledge of data structures, concurrency, and error handling.
• Experience with gRPC, REST, and JSON APIs.
• Experience with relational or distributed data stores (PostgreSQL, CockroachDB, MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis).
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes in dev or production.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD, and production release workflows.
• Familiarity with observability using metrics and logs (Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk).
• Ability to operate independently and contribute to architecture.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and maintain production backend services and microservices in Java.
• Contribute to service migration and consolidation across cloud platforms.
• Build and evolve APIs using gRPC, REST, and JSON-based interfaces.
• Work with distributed-system patterns including retries, timeouts, concurrency, and failure recovery.
• Integrate backend services with databases like PostgreSQL, CockroachDB, MongoDB, Redis.
• Containerize services and deploy into Kubernetes production environments.
• Collaborate with platform and infra engineers on cloud deployment, data migrations, observability, and production readiness.
• Improve service performance, scalability, availability, and fault tolerance.
• Develop automated tests and participate in CI/CD, release, and production validation.
• Use metrics, dashboards, and logs to troubleshoot production incidents.
• Communicate tradeoffs and risks clearly to engineering partners.
