This is an opportunity to lead a field engineering team, assisting customers with Canonical's open source solutions across public clouds and data centers. The role involves working with a broad spectrum of cloud technologies, from Ubuntu and virtualization to Kubernetes and advanced open source platforms like MLops and data solutions. As Canonical expands into industries such as telco, finance, healthcare, and media, we develop new open source solutions to meet diverse needs.

We believe engineering managers should be excellent engineers, comfortable troubleshooting and engaging in technical presales. They contribute technically but focus primarily on guiding team direction, focus, and delivery. We also invest in soft skills and management training for engineers interested in leadership roles.

The role of a Cloud Field Engineering Manager at Canonical

The team of cloud solutions architects works directly with customers to design private and public cloud solutions tailored to workload needs. Technologies include on-premise solutions like OpenStack, MicroCloud, Ceph, and deployable solutions such as Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, and PostgreSQL. Managers and team members deploy, test, and hand over solutions, and participate in presales to provide technical advice.

The manager oversees line management, career development, technical representation, and collaboration with other teams and clients. Active participation in presales is expected to meet quarterly goals.

This is a home-based role managing a team in your time zone.

• Represent your team to stakeholders, partners, and customers
• Promote best engineering and organizational practices

• Knowledge of cloud computing technologies like Kubernetes, OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph
• Practical Linux and networking skills
• Experience in technical presales
• Energetic, proactive, and people-oriented

• Experience in leading and mentoring engineers
• Organized with a focus on delivering quality results
• Strong academic background, preferably with university education
• Willing to travel up to 40%
