Job summary

California Coast Credit is seeking a Cloud Engineering Manager in San Diego, CA to lead hands-on cloud infrastructure design, security, and optimization. JOB Objective

The Cloud Engineering Manager is a hands‑on technical leader who guides the design, optimization, and security of the organization’s cloud infrastructure while actively contributing to engineering delivery. The role mentors Cloud Engineers, leads architectural decisions in close collaboration with the Cloud Architect, and directly participates in building, automating, and troubleshooting cloud solutions to ensure scalable, secure, and high‑performing environments that support digital banking applications as well as other assigned cloud projects.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Reports directly to the Director of Cloud & Data for coaching, performance appraisal work, guidance, direction, and feedback.
  • Provides leadership, coaching, performance management, and technical direction to Cloud Engineers and the Cloud Architect.
NATURE & SCOPE

This role works closely with the Cloud Architect and Cloud Engineers to ensure alignment across cloud infrastructure design, cost‑optimization strategies, security controls, and DevOps automation. Together, they drive scalable architecture, operational excellence, continuous improvement across cloud platforms and engineering workflows, and support broader cloud work units.

  • Lead and implement the design, governance, and optimization of cloud infrastructure supporting enterprise initiatives.
  • Govern and oversee cloud costs and optimizations.
CI/CD & Release Management:
  • Owns the roadmap for CI/CD pipelines and DevOps automation.
  • Standardize deployment patterns, enforce release governance, and reduce deployment risk in partnership with development and product teams to accelerate release velocity.
Monitoring & Observability:
  • Define monitoring standards for infrastructure, application health, and end‑to‑end tracing.
  • Govern alerting thresholds, dashboards, and SLA metrics.
Security & Access Control:
  • Ensure cloud security controls continue to meet banking regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with Security to enforce Cloud DevSecOps and secure coding practices.
Certificate & Credential Management:
  • Govern credential management best practices for service accounts and secrets.
  • Ensure secure storage, rotation, and auditing of credentials.
  • Lead cloud engineering participation in agile ceremonies and cross‑functional planning.
  • Drive continuous improvement of cloud infrastructure, DevOps pipelines, and operational processes.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on post‑security incident reviews, reliability engineering initiatives, and cross‑team corrective action planning.
  • Promote knowledge sharing, documentation, and engineering best practices across the organization.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, reliability, and operational excellence.
Technical Work Involvement
  • Hands‑on leader who works collaboratively with the cloud engineering team across all technical initiatives and cloud projects while effectively managing core leadership responsibilities.
Education, skills, & abilities

Requires an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, plus 9 or more years of progressive cloud engineering experience, including leadership responsibility. In addition to core managerial competencies, the Cloud Engineering Manager should demonstrate equivalent hands‑on tooling experience as below:

  • Strong ability to lead and mentor cloud engineering teams while staying deeply engaged in hands‑on architecture, troubleshooting, and implementation work, all while effectively managing core leadership responsibilities.
  • Deep technical expertise with Azure cloud services, CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure‑as‑code frameworks such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Strong leadership and implementation in identity and access management, including enterprise‑grade implementations of Okta, Entra ID P2, Privileged Identity Management (PIM), and Role‑Based Access Control (RBAC) across cloud and SaaS platforms.
  • Experience managing and securing digital banking services hosted in Azure, including API Management, Application Gateway/WAF, Key Vault, Private Endpoints, and network segmentation aligned with financial‑industry security standards.
  • Hands‑on database engineering and operational experience with MongoDB Atlas, MySQL, and SQL Server, including performance tuning, high availability, backup/restore strategies, and secure connectivity patterns.
  • Advanced operational knowledge of Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), including cluster lifecycle management, node pool strategy, workload deployment, scaling, monitoring, governance, and cluster security hardening.
  • Strong background in cloud cost optimization, including Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, workload right‑sizing, and proactive cost‑alerting strategies.
  • Experience implementing OAuth 2.0, SSO integrations, and securing cloud‑based communication platforms such as Twilio.
  • Expertise with Datadog for monitoring, end‑to‑end tracing, log analytics, and proactive performance management across distributed systems.
  • Strong experience with Jira Service Management (JSM) for incident management, workflow optimization, and service delivery improvements.
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitLab CI) and Git‑based version control systems.
  • Experience with microservices architectures, serverless technologies, and modern API‑driven application patterns.
  • Strong understanding of certificate lifecycle management, secrets governance, and cloud security protocols.
  • Ability to drive automation across DevOps processes, including build validation, deployment pipelines, and environment provisioning.
  • Experience in the financial industry, particularly Credit Union/Banking, is preferred.
  • Cloud certifications (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect , AWS Certified Solutions Architect , Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) ) are a plus.

  • Oversee network security best practices and enforce secure configurations across cloud and on‑prem environments.
  • Provide technical escalation support from internal teams and ensure timely resolution of cloud issues, incidents, and service disruptions.
  • Drive operational excellence across development operations, cloud platforms, and DevOps automation.
  • Support large enterprise projects with related Cloud Engineering tasks and ensure productivity, quality, and customer service demands are met.
  • Help guide the organization’s development operations functions to ensure efficiency, reliability, and continuous improvement.
  • Will participate in the on‑call rotation along with cloud engineering team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
