Job summary

Vanguard is seeking a Cloud Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing team responsible for scalable cloud solutions across a multi-cloud environment. Are you passionate about cloud technology, engineering leadership, and building high-performing teams? Join Vanguard's growing Cloud Engineering organization as a Cloud Engineering Manager.

As the Cloud Engineering Manager, you will lead a team responsible for delivering scalable, reliable, and efficient cloud solutions across Vanguard's multi-cloud environment. You will drive engineering excellence, enable platform capabilities, and partner with technology teams to accelerate cloud adoption and innovation.

You'll operate at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, automation, platform engineering, and emerging AI-driven capabilities, helping teams build, operate, and optimize cloud solutions that support Vanguard's mission and business objectives.

**This Hybrid role can be based in Malvern, PA, Charlotte, NC, or Dallas, TX**

Core Responsibilities:

• Lead and develop a high-performing cloud engineering team. Provide mentorship, coaching, and professional development to team members. Assess performance and make informed compensation decisions in accordance with HR policies and procedures.
• Lead a team responsible for developing, managing, and optimizing cloud platform capabilities across Vanguard's cloud environment.
• Drive adoption of automation and AI-enabled solutions to improve operational efficiency, engineering productivity, and cloud management practices.
• Partner with Platform Engineering, Architecture, DevOps, Infrastructure, Application Development, and other stakeholders to design and implement scalable cloud solutions.
• Establish engineering standards, best practices, and operating models that enable reliable and efficient cloud operations.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cloud performance, availability, resiliency, and operational excellence.
• Develop and monitor metrics, KPIs, and OKRs that measure platform reliability, team effectiveness, and engineering outcomes.
• Collaborate with platform and engineering teams to improve visibility, operational insights, and overall cloud maturity.
• Lead cloud modernization initiatives and support adoption of emerging technologies and engineering practices.
• Build strong partnerships across technology teams to prioritize work, remove obstacles, and deliver business value.
• Stay current on industry trends, cloud technologies, AI capabilities, and platform engineering best practices.

Education & Experience:

• Minimum of 5 years of related work experience required, including experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, or related technology functions.
• Undergraduate degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP and a strong understanding of cloud platforms, architecture, and engineering best practices.
• Experience leading technical initiatives in large-scale enterprise environments.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to drive complex technical decisions.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code, automation frameworks, and cloud-native technologies.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across multiple levels of the organization.

Qualifications that make an impact:

• Experience with Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, or other AI-assisted engineering tools.
• Demonstrated passion for continuous learning and technology innovation.
• Experience leading structured process improvement initiatives.
• Experience with cloud automation, Infrastructure as Code, and platform engineering practices.
