Job summary

SMX is hiring a Cloud Engineer to join our defense-focused team on site in Chantilly, VA, Herndon, VA, or Aurora, CO, Monday through Friday. The role requires a TS/SCI CI Poly clearance and a security certification, leading design, development, and integration of cloud architectures for national defense programs.

You will work with engineers and program managers to deploy cloud applications across AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, implement IaC, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization with Docker,

Qualifications

• Clearance: TS/SCI CI Polygraph
• On-site support Monday – Friday in Chantilly, VA; Herndon, VA; or Aurora, CO
• Security certification required
• 4+ years of experience building, deploying, releasing automation, or orchestration across AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
• Hands-on with IaC, automated configurations, large-scale deployments, and CI/CD processes; Docker/OpenShift/Kubernetes familiarity

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and integration of ashore and afloat cloud architectures
• Collaborate with engineers, program managers, and stakeholders for system performance
• Conduct system assessments, troubleshoot issues, and suggest enhancements
• Prepare technical docs, diagrams, and reports for stakeholders
• Lead architecture design for Windows Server‑based IT systems and tools
• Assess current environments and migration dependencies
• Develop workload migration plans with timelines and risk assessments
• Ensure architecture plans align with project goals and timelines
• Provide guidance during implementation to ensure architectural compliance
• Scale delivery of modern systems engineering practices and automation
