You will blend hands-on engineering with technical leadership, setting standards for infrastructure-as-code, observability, and safer continuous delivery on a live, regulated platform across distributed teams.

Qualifications

• Six+ years of cloud or backend engineering experience, with leadership experience aligning multiple teams.
• Hands-on AWS and Terraform (IaC) experience; review designs and PRs.
• Background with serverless and event-driven architectures, preferably with Node.js or TypeScript.
• Ability to translate technical choices into clear trade-offs for stakeholders and ensure decisions stick.
• Active coaching, pairing, and knowledge-sharing focus.
• Pragmatic decision-making within security, compliance, and regulatory boundaries.
• Comfort working in a self-managing organisation with distributed teams.
• Fluent English communication as the primary internal language.

Role overview

This senior cloud engineer role leads the modernisation of a cloud platform that powers a globally used connected-health application serving several million monthly active users. The position blends hands-on engineering with technical leadership, setting standards and guiding multiple teams toward infrastructure-as-code, observability, and safer continuous delivery on a live, regulated platform.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the cloud and backend roadmap, translating engineering vision into clear priorities, trade-offs, and next steps.
• Drive cross-team architecture decisions to a close, making sure they are transparent, documented, and followed through.
• Establish shared technical standards and guardrails that let teams work autonomously without creating dependencies.
• Work hands-on with AWS and Terraform, reviewing designs and pull requests and challenging technical choices where needed.
• Coach and pair with engineers to spread knowledge across teams and support greater ownership.
• Balance technical direction with product, regulatory, security, and cost considerations alongside product owners, QA, and international colleagues.
• Move the platform toward automated infrastructure, safer deployments, and stronger observability without relying on a big-bang rewrite.

Requirements

• Six or more years of cloud or backend engineering experience, including at least two years in a technical leadership role aligning multiple teams around direction and decisions.
• Hands-on experience with AWS and Terraform (Infrastructure as Code), comfortable reviewing designs and pull requests.
• Background with serverless and event-driven architectures, ideally combined with Node.js or TypeScript stacks.
• Ability to translate technical choices into clear trade-offs for engineers, product owners, QA, and other stakeholders, and get decisions to stick without formal authority.
• Active coaching, pairing, reviewing, and knowledge-sharing focus.
• Pragmatic decision-making within clear security, compliance, and regulatory boundaries.
• Comfort working in a self-managing organisational model with distributed teams.
• Fluent English communication, as it is the primary internal language.

Nice to have

• Background in healthcare or other regulated environments.
• Familiarity with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and modern CI/CD pipelines.
