Job description

Our client is seeking a hands-on Cloud Engineer to join the Cloud Architecture team and help design, build, automate, and support secure, scalable cloud-native solutions within a primarily AWS environment.

This role sits at the intersection of cloud infrastructure and application engineering, partnering closely with Cloud Architecture, Integrations, Release Engineering, Security, and Application Development teams. The engineer will translate established cloud architecture and engineering standards into secure, repeatable, automated solutions.

The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in AWS infrastructure and Infrastructure as Code, combined with practical experience across serverless and containerized applications, APIs and integrations, CI/CD, automation, observability, and application development.

This is a hands-on engineering position, not a traditional systems administration role. The successful candidate should be comfortable moving between AWS infrastructure, application code, deployment pipelines, integrations, and troubleshooting across the technology stack.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, deploy, and support AWS cloud-native solutions using services such as Lambda, ECS/Fargate, API Gateway, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, and related AWS services.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, AWS SAM, and CloudFormation.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation using GitHub Actions.
• Partner with application and integration teams to develop and support REST APIs, middleware integrations, serverless applications, containerized workloads, and web applications.
• Develop automation, cloud tooling, and supporting applications using Python, Node.js, Java, and scripting languages.
• Support Java/Spring Boot applications and workloads running in AWS.
• Implement and troubleshoot OAuth 2.0, IAM, application-to-application authentication, secrets management, and other cloud security patterns.
• Design and support cloud data solutions using RDS, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, RDS Proxy, and other AWS database services.
• Implement and maintain application and infrastructure observability using Dynatrace, OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch, centralized logging, metrics, and distributed tracing.
• Create reusable Terraform modules, IaC templates, automation, and deployment patterns that can be leveraged across engineering teams.
• Develop and maintain AWS Systems Manager (SSM) Documents and automation workflows.
• Troubleshoot issues spanning application code, AWS infrastructure, networking, IAM, databases, integrations, and deployment pipelines.
• Implement solutions in accordance with established cloud architecture, security, networking, governance, and operational standards.
• Support AWS account and landing-zone automation, including AWS Control Tower and AWS Organizations.
• Evaluate emerging AWS services and capabilities and recommend opportunities for adoption.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to improve the reliability, scalability, security, and operational maturity of cloud platforms and applications.

Required Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience engineering and supporting AWS cloud environments.
• Experience with core AWS services including Lambda, ECS/Fargate, API Gateway, and other cloud-native services.
• Strong Infrastructure as Code experience, particularly Terraform.
• Experience with AWS SAM and/or CloudFormation.
• Hands-on experience building or supporting CI/CD pipelines, preferably with GitHub Actions.
• Development or scripting experience with Python, Node.js, Java, or similar languages.
• Experience developing, integrating, or supporting REST APIs and middleware integrations.
• Strong understanding of AWS IAM, cloud security, secrets management, and authentication patterns.
• Practical experience implementing or troubleshooting OAuth 2.0.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, including RDS, PostgreSQL, or DynamoDB.
• Understanding of modern cloud observability, including logs, metrics, distributed tracing, and OpenTelemetry concepts.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across both application and cloud infrastructure layers.
• Ability to work effectively across infrastructure, application development, security, integration, and release engineering teams.
