Job summary

iA (Innovation Associates) is seeking a Software Data Engineering Intern to help build data pipelines, ETL processes, and analytics-ready data on cloud platforms. You will work with senior engineers on Databricks and enterprise data solutions, learning data governance, security, and AI enablement while contributing to real projects in a 10-week summer program.

The internship focuses on Databricks, data modelling, and metadata management, offering mentorship and an opportunity to explore

Qualifications

• Pursuing degree in CS/IT/Data Science or related field.
• Hands-on knowledge of SQL and at least one modern language.
• Familiarity with Excel, Tableau/Power BI.
• Some programming experience with JavaScript/TypeScript or Python.
• Some classes on object-oriented design.
• Knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
• Interest in data engineering, AI, ML, or using data to solve real-world problems.
• Exposure to Databricks, Spark, data lakes, or modern data platforms.
• Experience with Python for data processing.
• Familiarity with generative AI or NLP.
• Exposure to data governance, metadata management, or semantic data models.
• Interest in enterprise data prepared for AI applications.

Responsibilities

• Implement components of data warehousing systems and ETL processes under guidance.
• Develop data solutions on Databricks enabling analytics, AI, and ML capabilities.
• Help create and maintain curated, trusted data models for analytics and AI.
• Improve and maintain data metadata, descriptions, relationships, and business context.
• Prepare data for self-service AI and analytics experiences using approved tools.
• Participate in developing proof-of-concept AI and data solutions.
• Evaluate AI-generated data queries for accuracy and alignment with definitions.
• Attend and contribute to daily team meetings.
• Follow senior engineers to apply best industry practices.
• Deploy cloud software components under supervision.
• Collaborate to implement technical designs.
• Maintain security of company data and applications.
• Create technical documentation for proposed and implemented solutions.
