Job summary

The North Carolina Office of the State Auditor is seeking a Cloud Architect to design and maintain cloud architecture standards, reference designs, solution patterns, and technical roadmaps that support secure, scalable agency systems.

You will evaluate risks and costs, consult with stakeholders to translate business needs into viable cloud options, and review proposals for alignment with enterprise architecture and agency standards.

Qualifications

• Ability to evaluate existing systems and recommend cloud migration, modernization, integration, and optimization approaches.
• Knowledge of cloud security, IAM, network segmentation, data protection, monitoring, and compliance for enterprise environments.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences and promote consistent architecture practices across agency initiatives.

Job description

The Office of the State Auditor (OSA) is seeking a Cloud Architect to serve on within our Information Technology Division. In this role, you will get the opportunity to develop and maintain cloud architecture standards, reference designs, solution patterns, and technical roadmaps that support secure and scalable agency systems.

As part of our team, you will get to:

Design cloud environments, workloads, integrations, and platform services

Establish and promote governance practices for cloud resource provisioning, security baselines, access management, tagging, monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, and lifecycle controls

Evaluate architectural risks, cost drivers, operational impacts, and compliance considerations

Consult with managers, analysts, developers, infrastructure staff, vendors, and business stakeholders to translate business needs into feasible cloud architecture options

Review proposed technical solutions, integration approaches, migration plans, and vendor designs for alignment with agency standards and enterprise architecture direction

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to evaluate existing systems and recommend cloud migration, modernization, integration, and optimization approaches
• Knowledge of cloud security, identity and access management, network segmentation, data protection, monitoring, and compliance requirements for enterprise environments
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences and promote consistent architecture practices across agency technology initiatives

Minimum Education and Experience

A bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and six years of progressive IT experience including four years of experience related to cloud architecture design and/or implementation

OR

An associate degree in computer science, information technology, or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and seven years of progressive IT experience including five years of experience related to cloud architecture design and/or implementation

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience
