Job summary

Extreme Networks seeks a Director of Software Applications Engineering to lead the teams that design, build, and operate cloud-native applications, APIs, and middleware powering our cloud networking platform.

Reporting to the VP, Cloud Networking Engineering, this role balances hands-on technical leadership with people management, resourcing, and cross-functional influence in a hybrid setting at Salem, NH.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 12+ years in software engineering, with 5+ years in leadership overseeing multiple teams.
• Experience building cloud-native apps on AWS/Azure/GCP with microservices, containers, and serverless tech.

Responsibilities

• Own strategy and roadmap for cloud applications, APIs, and middleware/data services.
• Lead multiple engineering teams, setting goals and performance expectations.
• Partner with Product Management to translate requirements into a technical roadmap.
• Drive CI/CD, test automation, observability, and SSDLC across services.
• Ensure scalability and performance of cloud apps in multi-tenant environments.
• Collaborate with Platform, SRE, Security, and Support teams on incidents and SLAs.
• Evolve architecture for APIs, messaging, and data pipelines to support new capabilities.
• Manage budget, vendors, and resource planning with VP leadership.
• Represent the team in executive reviews and cross-org initiatives.
• Champion Agile/Scrum practices and engineering culture across distributed teams.
