The Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Boston is seeking a Clinician/Play Therapist to provide trauma-informed mental health counseling, play therapy, and case management to youth and adults.   • Competencies in trauma treatment modalities, child development, and play therapy approaches.
  • Experience working directly with young children, adolescents, and adults in a professional setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, problem solving skills, a social justice perspective, have experience with complex trauma, and clinical understanding of family systems.
  • Experience establishing connections with local agencies and providing resources to clients.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct biopsychosocial assessments, complete treatment planning, maintain progress notes, provide ongoing therapy, outreach, and support services, with the goal of improving family functioning. Complete third party payor paperwork as appropriate.
  • Track client progress and assist with reports to the Department of Children and Families.
  • Prepare reports and maintain records as required by DCF and DPH.
  • Attend team meetings and work with supervisors in assessing client needs and providing evidence-based therapies.
  • Meet with clients during times of their availability, which may vary according to their work or school schedules. This may include some evenings, early mornings, and weekends.
  • Perform work in an office environment, client homes or community.
  • Participate in trainings and professional development as required.
  • Other responsibilities as required.

About the Role:

The Clinician/Play Therapist is responsible for providing trauma-informed mental health counseling, play therapy, and case management services to DCF referred and non-DCF referred youth and adults by providing mental health counseling via talk therapy and play therapy and offer referrals and resources. The clinician will use developmentally appropriate evidence-based therapeutic modalities to support individual needs while providing case management services, including coordination of care, advocacy, and referrals as appropriate and maintaining ongoing contact with collaterals and parents. Services may be provided in the client’s home, in a community setting, or in a Catholic Charities office in Boston.

Qualifications:
  • A master’s degree in social work, mental health counseling, or related field with a minimum of 3 years post graduate experience in mental health services.
  • Licensed clinician (PhD, LCSW, LICSW, LMHC, LMFT, LADC-1), or enrolled in a training program in preparation for licensure.
  • Competencies in trauma treatment modalities, child development, and play therapy approaches.
  • Experience working directly with young children, adolescents, and adults in a professional setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, problem solving skills, a social justice perspective, have experience working with complex trauma, and clinical understanding of family systems.
  • Experience establishing connections with local agencies and providing resources to clients.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management.
  • Interest and ability to work as a member of a team and independently.
  • Strong communication, administrative, and computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook and Zoom, including other electronic platforms.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to push, pull and/or lift up to 25 pounds.
