POSITION TITLE: CLINICIAN II / III

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

This is a FLSA non-exempt position. The incumbent is responsible for providing individual and group counseling, education and rehabilitation services to adult pregnant and/or parenting clients with substance use/co-occurring mental health disorders within the Project Link Program and Family Recovery Court docket. The incumbent must be comfortable serving a diverse group of clients with many different challenges including: SUD and Mental Health diagnoses, justice system involvement/court involved, unhoused/food insecurity, and/or involved with the Department of Social Services. The incumbent should be comfortable working from a strengths-based, trauma-informed, person-centered perspective in order to nurture and develop the client’s individual strengths.

In carrying out the responsibilities of this position, the treatment provider reports to and receives general supervision from the Program Manager II for Project LINK. The incumbent is expected to exercise sound judgment, demonstrate initiative and maintain confidentiality in accordance with established policies and procedures. They are expected to perform all duties in accordance with applicable professional ethics state quality assurance standards Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) regulations, as well as established Region Ten policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Region Ten shall have three classification levels for clinicians:

  • Clinician II

    Master’s degree and license eligible according the DHP definition: Master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, substance abuse, or marriage and family therapy from an accredited college or university, and

    Education verified by an official transcript with conferral date, and

    Evidence you have had an intern or practicum of at least 500 hours of experience with persons who have a mental illness

    Is under the direct personal supervision of a person licensed under Virginia law, who is working towards licensure, and who is in compliance with the appropriate Virginia licensing board may perform the functions of the LMHP for purposes of Medicaid reimbursement. The Board of Health Professions refers to masters prepared individuals in Counseling and Psychology as “Resident”. The Board of Health Professions refers to masters prepared individuals in social work as “Supervisee”. For purposes of Medicaid reimbursement, these persons shall use LMHP-E after their signatures to indicate this status. Additionally, a person who is able to register within 6 months of hire. In this case, a newly hired clinician’s continued employment is contingent on meeting the definition about within 6 months of hire.

EDUCATION:

Clinician II: Master’s Degree in counseling related field. Candidates must be eligible to seek licensure through the Virginia Department of Health Professions.

Clinician III: Master Degree and licensed through the Virginia Department of Health Professions.

EXPERIENCE:

1 year of experience working with adults with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders preferred

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

Candidates must either be licensed as an LCSW or LPC through the Virginia Department of Health Professions or be licensed-eligible to seek supervision as either a Supervisee in Social Work or Resident in Counseling.

To ensure the safe and efficient operation of the program, a valid Virginia Driver’s License plus an acceptable driving record as issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles are required.

For business use of a personal car, a certificate of valid personal automobile insurance must be provided.

KSAS

Knowledge of: Counseling theories and techniques; individual and group counseling, case management, issues affecting women who have substance use disorders and/or those in recovery; harm reduction principles; serious mental illness; suicidality; motivational interviewing techniques; community resources; crisis intervention; DSM V multi-axial diagnosis system, parenting and home visiting theories and best practices. Knowledge of typical childhood development and parenting issues is preferred.

Skills in:

Counseling techniques; Case management; Group facilitation; assessment writing; crisis management, DSM-V diagnosis, engaging with clients who struggle with engagement, working with individuals involved in the justice system; computer proficiency.

Abilities to:

Establish rapport with clients and their families, maintain effective working relationships with other professionals, accept supervision and seek it out when needed, effectively communicate with clients and other professionals, work independently and as a team member, recognize need for additional training.

HOURLY SALARY RANGE:
  • GRADE 9- CLINICIAN I: $21.02 - $31.53 per hour
  • GRADE 10- CLINICIAN II: $25.00 - $34.68 per hour
  • GRADE 11- CLINICIAN III: $27.40 - $38.15 per hour
