The role involves providing counseling services to clients with substance abuse and mental health issues, conducting diagnostic evaluations, writing behavioral treatment plans, providing individual counseling, and developing aftercare plans in accordance with department standards. The clinician participates as a member of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to patient care and treatment planning.

I. Major Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct eligibility screenings and comprehensive intake assessments to assess eligibility, gather clinical information, and inform treatment planning.
  2. Perform client evaluations including bio-psychosocial assessments, diagnostic formulation, and initial treatment plan recommendations.
  3. Meet with clients to provide individual counseling and assist in attaining treatment goals.
  4. Develop treatment plans highlighting client strengths with behaviorally based goals and objectives. Document services and progress in accordance with standards. Refer clients to resources as needed.
  5. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions. Recognize when consultation is needed and seek it. Develop a training plan for professional growth.
  6. Engage in utilization management, employ CARF standards, and assist in re-accreditation processes.
  7. Build relationships with external agencies to support client recovery, facilitate referrals, and coordinate care.
  8. Work closely with the MMAT clinical team (Recovery Coach, Nurse, Psychiatrist) to coordinate services.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

  • Required: Master's degree in a behavioral health field (social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy, counseling, or related) meeting academic requirements for independent licensure in Massachusetts.
  • Active licensure as LMHC, LCSW, LMFT, or working towards licensure in Massachusetts.

Preferred:

  • Bilingual abilities are preferred.

Experience/Skills:

  • Ability to perform diagnostic and risk assessments using accepted tools.
  • Ability to develop and implement behaviorally oriented, measurable treatment plans.
  • Interest and ability to learn evidence-based models for opioid addiction treatment.

Preferred Experience:

  • At least one year of experience in behavioral health or addiction is preferred.
  • Clinical expertise with adults with substance use conditions and co-occurring mental illnesses, with effective engagement skills.
