About the Department

The NC State Veterinary Health Complex ( VHC ), established in 1983, is one of the highest rated regional academic medical centers in the country, serving communities throughout North Carolina as well as many other states. The mission of the Veterinary Health Complex is three-fold:

  • Compassionate, state of the art specialty health care.
  • Expert clinical instruction for 4th year veterinary students from the College of Veterinary Medicine.
  • Ongoing investigation of innovative techniques and procedures to further advance the field of veterinary medicine.
With over seventeen clinical services staffed by board-certified specialists, many of whom are not only nationally but also internationally renowned, the VHC is on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine. Patients benefit from the combined expertise of multiple specialists utilizing a team approach to patient health care. Each year, nearly 22,000 patients are treated in the VHC .

The Neurology Service within the VHC is a busy state-of-the-art referral practice that provides medical and surgical specialty care to dogs and cats with neurological disease. The service consists of ACVIM board-certified faculty members, neurology residents, and clinical technicians.

This position will serve as a clinician on the Neurology Service working alongside a faculty neurologist. They will assume primary case management responsibilities and will oversee the residents, interns, students, and technicians that contribute to the team. The selected candidate will provide high quality effective and efficient patient care for a variety of cases.

Clinical responsibilities will entail all the duties associated with case management (client and referral veterinarian communication, development of a diagnostic and treatment plan, interpretation of diagnostic findings, implementation of a treatment plan, surgery, post-operative care, development of a home care plan, and adherence to hospital fiscal policies). Consultation will be provided to other services within the CVM , and to referring veterinarians. They will be expected to support and to perform clinical research to advance clinically relevant knowledge.
