Job Summary

The Clinical Unit Coordinator provides coordination of direct and indirect patient care at the hospital‑wide level. The coordinator is responsible for shift or specific operations on the unit to ensure effective patient care, including patient flow, personnel management, quality improvement, and direct care. The coordinator mentors staff, supports the Department Manager and Assistant Manager, promotes staff development and a shared governance model, and demonstrates initiative, flexibility, and responsibility with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Determine priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs and factors influencing patient flow.
  • Demonstrate alignment with ASPIRE values and communicate effectively.
  • Consult and evaluate patient progress toward desired outcomes, assisting with corrective actions to promote effective care and meet quality indicators.
  • Participate in MD rounds and huddles as applicable.
  • Respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or treatment response.
  • Model and exemplify the facility’s core values.
  • Assist the Nurse Manager with monitoring and improving patient and employee satisfaction scores.
  • Facilitate huddles and hold staff accountable to discussed topics.
  • Support institutional and unit goals, promote staff development, and employee engagement.
  • Act as a clinical and operational resource, providing clinical expertise.
  • Promote a shared governance model on the unit.
  • Assist with staffing and scheduling to meet department needs.
  • Seek opportunities for professional growth.
Qualifications
  • Education: Completion of a nursing program approved by the State Board of Nursing. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Experience: 2 years in an acute care or specialized unit setting preferred.
  • Licensure: Registered Nurse with current licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Required Skills: Ability to perform basic nursing skills on groups of patients, multitask, prioritize quickly, administer medication following the five rights, communicate verbally and in written form, basic computer knowledge.

Physical Demands

The job requires constant standing, frequent walking, and bending/stooping. It demands proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills, attention to detail, legible writing, and the ability to lift or push/pull up to 100 lbs. Other Responsibilities
  • May require the use of safety equipment, such as HEPA mask, for infection prevention.
  • On‑call responsibilities as directed.
  • Ability to travel between campus buildings, remote facilities, and out of town as needed.
