Job summary

Florence County seeks a Clinical Technician Supervisor to coordinate kennel operations, supervise staff and inmates, and oversee daily medical and animal care for the shelter population.

You will administer medications, track records, schedule vaccinations, and assist with Adoption, Rescue and TNR programs, including after-hours coverage and on-call events. You’ll monitor inventories, ensure safety and sanitation, and collaborate with coordinators to achieve positive outcomes for our animals.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with animals preferred.
  • S.C. Driver’s license required.
  • Must obtain Humane Euthanasia certification within one year of hire.
  • Must obtain a category 8 Pesticide Applicator within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise kennel staff; train, coach, and evaluate on safety, animal handling, sanitation, feeding, enrichment, medical procedures, documentation, and policies.
  • Manage daily kennel workflow including cleaning, animal movement and medication schedules.
  • Supervise inmates in daily activities ensuring safety and protocol adherence.
  • Assess animals health and demeanor to determine medical needs and adoption suitability.
  • Maintain accurate medical and observation records.
  • Coordinate observations with Operations Superintendent, Adoptions Coordinator, and Program Coordinator.
  • Conduct regular facility walk-throughs to observe and report conditions or behaviors.
  • Clean/sanitize kennels; provide fresh water and feed as needed.
  • Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as directed.
  • Assist team members with Adoption, Rescue and TNR programs.
  • Work after hours and weekends; on-call rotations and events.
  • Monitor supply inventories and alert supervisor of low stocks.
  • Transport animals to/from clinics and rescue partners.
  • Perform and assist humane euthanasia following procedures.
  • Evaluate and recommend animals for potential adoption.
  • Operate equipment to spray for mosquitos when needed.

Job Description

The Clinical Technician Supervisor works closely with the Operations Superintendent to coordinate kennel operations, staff supervision, and the daily medical and animal care needs of the shelter population.

Essential Functions:
  • Directly supervises kennel staff. Trains, coaches, and evaluates kennel staff on safety, animal handling, sanitation, feeding, enrichment, medical procedures, documentation, and policies.
  • Manages daily kennel workflow, including cleaning assignments, animal movement and medication schedules, and end of the day duties.
  • Supervises inmates in their daily activities, ensuring safety and adherence to protocols.
  • Assess animal’s health and demeanor to determine medical needs and suitability for adoption.
  • Maintains accurate medical and observation records of animals.
  • Coordinates observations of animals to the Operations Superintendent, Adoptions Coordinator, and Program Coordinator to help determine avenues of positive outcomes.
  • Conducts regular walk-throughs of the facility to observe, evaluate, and report any abnormal conditions or behaviors of the animals to the Operations Superintendent.
  • Cleans and sanitizes kennels, provides fresh water, and feeds animals as needed.
  • Administers medications, vaccinations, and treatments as directed.
  • Assist team members when needed with all programs such as Adoption, Rescue and our TNR program.
  • Works after hours and weekends as assigned, including during on-call rotations and scheduled events.
  • Monitor supply inventories and alert the supervisor of low stocks.
  • Transports animals to and from, rescue agencies, veterinarian, offices, and clinics.
  • Performs and assists with humane euthanasia, following proper procedures and adherence to protocols.
  • Evaluates and recommends animals for potential adoption.
  • Operates equipment to spray for mosquitos when needed.
Non-Essential Functions:
  • Take and upload photos and videos of adoptable animals to websites and social media platforms.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, data entry and the ability to quickly learn and utilize new software systems.
  • Attend training sessions, classes and conferences as required to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills.
  • Performs all other related duties as required.
Qualifications: Education and Work Experience
  • Requires a high school diploma, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Professional experience working with animals preferred.
  • Requires S.C. Driver’s license.
  • Must obtain Humane Euthanasia certification within one year of hire.
  • Must obtain a category 8 Pesticide Applicator within one year of hire.
