Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights seeks a Clinical Technician to join the 5 Seidman-Renal unit. The role supports RN colleagues by taking vitals, assisting with patient care and transfers, and performing basic monitoring and testing.

The position requires BLS, a high school diploma or GED, and relevant care experience or clinical rotations. Night shifts run 6:30pm–7:00am with weekend/holiday rotation, in a Magnet-designated setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS certification from AHA or Red Cross within hire period.
• 1 year of recent patient care experience OR nursing student with clinical rotation OR related military medical experience.
• Competencies in professional, technical and clinical knowledge demonstrated safely.
• Math and reading comprehension at an 8th grade level.

Responsibilities

• Provide or assist with patient care under RN supervision, including taking vital signs and weight.
• Assist with personal care, dressing changes, transfers/transport, and mobility.
• Apply external monitoring devices and perform basic phlebotomy and 12-lead ECGs.

Hillcrest Hospital's 5 Seidman Renal Unit is a 24 private bed unit that provides care and treatment to acutely ill adult and geriatric patients who require inpatient or observation care. Patients in this unit have renal diseases, respiratory diseases, cardiac diseases, diabetes and other chronic diseases. This unit also specializes in peritoneal dialysis while also providing treatments such as cardiac monitoring, IV therapy, nutritional support, diagnostic testing and spiritual support. As Clinical Technician, you will play a direct role in our mission to continuously provide patients with the best healthcare experience possible.

A caregiver in this position works nights 6:30 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. with every other weekend and holiday rotation requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, such as taking vital signs and weight, assisting patients with personal care, point of care testing, dressing changes, patient transfers/transport, applying external monitoring devices, further technical skills of phlebotomy, 12-lead ECG's and removing urinary Foley Catheters.
• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.
• Assist with keeping patients' rooms clean and orderly.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma/GED
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR the American Red Cross upon or within new hire period *Nursing students must obtain prior to hire*
• One year of recent, full-time patient care experience OR nursing student with at least one completed clinical rotation as part of an accredited Nursing School Program OR military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) OR additional education/training (e.g., mental health)
• Competencies in both the professional, technical and clinical knowledge domains must be demonstrated in a safe, effective and efficient manner.
• Demonstrates proficiency in applied mathematics & reading comprehension at an 8th grade level

Physical Requirements:

Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking. Medium Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force rarely, and/or 0 to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
