Job summary

Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis seeks an Education Specialist to drive Epic training and adoption across clinical workflows. You will create curricula, conduct sessions, and support go-live events to ensure optimal system use and patient care.

You will apply adult learning principles, analyze workflows, and collaborate with IS&T, informatics, and clinicians to optimize documentation and training outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or education with at least 2 years in healthcare education/training.
  • Experience training clinicians in healthcare settings.
  • Certified in at least one Epic module or commit to certification within 12 months.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deliver, and implement education and training for clinical information systems.

Additional onsite attendance may be required based on collaborations and operational needs. Candidates should be comfortable with occasional short-notice requests to work onsite. Seeking candidates with strong change management skills and experience.Purpose of this position: To ensure successful user orientation and adoption of clinical information systems for patient-centered care. The Education Specialist provides education and support of clinical information systems andanalytical tools to meet the operational and clinical needs of the organization.RESPONSIBILITIESAs an integral part of projects pertaining to organizational goals and strategies, clinical improvements, and regulatory requirements, is responsible for the design, delivery and implementation of education, creating and delivering communication which reinforces change management, and go-live support as needed for these projectsResponsible for IS&T communication strategy of clinical workflow changes and impact to clinicians and patient careApplying appropriate education theory and adult learning principles, develops and maintains curriculum and training guides for clinicians, including Epic and workflow training plans, content and competency testing, and feedback processesTeaches workflows and applications functionality to HHS clinical users when entering the organization, as well as maintaining education throughout Epic upgrades and optimizationsProvides education and consultative services to providers in relation to documentation standards in terms of quality, regulatory requirements, and best practices in alignment with clinical workflowsPerforms and documents workflow analysis, supporting standardized workflows and best practices, and uses expertise in assigned healthcare applications to recommend enhancements based on operational needsPerforms data analysis to support system, adoption and optimization initiatives. Anticipates reporting needs, and makes suggestions for value added data. Searches for potential system process improvements and recommends changes.Serves as a liaison between application support, clinical operations, informatics, and system users. Interprets and translates workflows, processes and terminology into messaging and educational content.Builds and maintains patients in the testing environmentProvides end-user support to include troubleshooting basic to moderately complex application issues, providing issue resolution when able, and escalating more complex issues as appropriateActs as an essential part of the Epic upgrade team, managing communication to clinical users, assessing educational needs, and supporting the go-liveQUALIFICATIONSMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in healthcare related field OR bachelor’s degree in education related field with a minimum of 2 years of healthcare related experienceExperience in training/education of clinicians in a health care settingExperience in the build/maintenance/support of EpicCertified in at least one Epic module or pass certification within 12 months in the position-OR-An approved equivalent combination of education and experiencePreferred QualificationsHealthcare related or Education related degreeExperience in the use of Epic and/or Epic certification in at least one Epic moduleCredentialed trainer in EpicCareExperience in end user support and/or educating clinicians in a classroom settingExperience in change managementChange Management experienceKnowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with a diversity of personalities, professions and departments; willingness to work across clinical areas and outside personal area of clinical expertiseAbility to handle multiple tasks, set appropriate priorities and accomplish assignments in a thorough and timely mannerDemonstrates a high level of clinical knowledge, analytical ability and critical decision making skillsPossesses good grasp of clinical work flows and ability to perform workflow analysisPossesses knowledge and skills to support clinicians and manage changes associated with implementing or optimizing clinical information systems and promoting adoption by health professionalsStrong computer skills including web-based applications, word processing, spreadsheet, graphs and PowerPointYou've made the right choice in considering Hennepin Healthcare for your employment.
