Job summary

Dignity Health at Mark Twain Medical Center is seeking a Clinical Supervisor of Surgical Services to coordinate daily operations, including staffing and scheduling, and to serve as a liaison between hospital leadership, physicians, and families.

You will supervise and educate staff, ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and Dignity Health standards, and maintain a sharp focus on cost containment and time management. The role may involve direct patient care when needed.

Qualifications

  • BSN or related field required.
  • 1–3 years of surgical service nursing experience in an acute care hospital.
  • Active California RN license required.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in selection, training, and evaluation of subordinates and initiates personnel actions in accordance with Human Resources policy and organizational philosophy.
  • Participates in development and maintenance of department policies and protocols. Understands, communicates and enforces hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Participates in the orientation of personnel. Provides educational resources and serves as the resource person. Mentors staff and plans and implement shift report.
  • Assists management in the development of the department operating budget and maintaining necessary controls to assure compliance with budgeted expenses, resources and staff productivity.
  • Supervises the day to day activity of the department, ensuring all policies and procedures are adhered to, patient concerns are addressed, phones are answered in a timely manner and all areas are staffed appropriately.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Clinical Supervisor of Surgical Services, you will help our medical staff and department personnel so they can provide safe, high-quality patient care and an optimal clinical experience.

Every day you will coordinate daily operations, including scheduling and staffing, while serving as a primary liaison between hospital leadership, physicians, and families. You will be expected to supervise and educate department staff, ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations and Dignity Health standards, and maintain a sharp focus on cost containment and time management.

To be successful in this role, you will integrate clinical expertise with administrative leadership to mitigate risk, uphold strict professional standards, and step in to provide direct patient care whenever the needs of the unit require it.

Job Requirements
Required
  • Bachelors Of Science in Nursing (BSN) or related field
  • 1-3 years of Surgical service line nursing experience in an acute care hospital required.
  • Active Registered Nurse license in the State of California
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association
Preferred
  • Surgical Services Leadership experience preferred.
