Job summary

Endeavor Health Kellogg Cancer Center seeks a Clinical Pharmacist Specialist to deliver comprehensive cancer pharmacotherapy care. You will support oncology patients and caregivers with education and medication management across rotating centers in Evanston, Glenview, Highland Park, and related sites.

Ideal candidates have Illinois pharmacist licensure, a PharmD or BS, and at least 3 years of clinical pharmacist experience with oncology emphasis.

Qualifications

• Illinois Registered Pharmacist license is required.
• BS or PharmD from an accredited school of pharmacy.
• Board certification in oncology training or equivalent experience preferred.
• At least 3 years of experience as a clinical registered pharmacist (excluding externships).

Responsibilities

• Provide and document comprehensive pharmaceutical care to Kellogg Cancer Center patients with cancer and related conditions.
• Offer medication education and symptom management for oncology patients and caregivers.
• Review and process infusion chemotherapy and supportive care orders for clinical appropriateness.
• Prepare and dispense anti-cancer and supportive care medications following policies.
• Design or update chemotherapy plans and monitoring plans for oncology patients.
• Create educational materials for patients on chemotherapy.
• Manage chemotherapy infusion reactions for oncology patients.
• Provide consultative services to other health care professionals on anti-cancer drug therapy.
• Educate pharmacists and healthcare professionals on medications.
• Precept PGY residents and students rotating with the team.

Job description

Hourly Pay Range

$61.48 - $95.29. The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Highlights

• Position: Clinical Pharmacist Specialist
• Location: Primarily rotating across Kellogg Cancer Center (Evanston, Glenview, and Highland Park locations) with occasional rotation to Swedish Cancer Center, Niles Infusion Center, and Arlington Heights Infusion Center as needed
• Per Diem - As needed
• Hours: Rotating Shifts Monday-Friday, 7am -6pm
• Required Travel: Yes

What You Will Need

• License: Current Illinois Registered Pharmacist
• Education: BS or PharmD (preferred) degree from an accredited school of pharmacy
• Certification: Board certification in oncology training or equivalent experience preferred
• Experience: At least 3 years of experience as a clinical registered pharmacist (excluding externships as a pharmacy student)

Patient Care

What you will do

• Provide and document comprehensive pharmaceutical care to Endeavor Health Kellogg Cancer Center patients with cancer and other conditions related to cancer
• Provide and document medication education and symptom management to oncology patients and caregivers
• Review and process infusion chemotherapy and supportive care orders plans for clinical appropriateness
• Prepare and dispense anti-cancer and supportive care medications for oncology patients following best practices and the organization’s policies and procedures.
• Design or update chemotherapy plans, supportive care regimens and monitoring plans (care plans) for oncology patients
• Design effective educational materials for patients on chemotherapy
• Provide chemotherapy infusion reaction management to oncology patients

Teaching/Education

• Provide consultative services to other health care professionals on anti-cancer drug therapy and monitoring
• Provide medication education to pharmacists and other health care professionals
• Precept learners (PGY2 oncology resident, PGY1 residents, and students) who are on rotation with the team

Performance Improvement

• Review protocols within the EHR for clinical appropriateness based on current guideline recommendations
• Coordinate and/or collaborate with other health care professionals to carry out quality improvement projects and develop institutional best practices
