Boston Children’s Hospital’s acclaimed Social Work Emergency Services team responds to social needs and issues in the Emergency Department and inpatient services. We are seeking to add two per diem social workers to our Emergency Services (ED) team.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to social needs and issues in the Emergency Department and inpatient services.
- Complete biopsychosocial assessments and trauma assessments.
- Provide trauma-informed, strengths-based interventions for patients and families.
- Screen and assess patients for social determinants of health.
- Offer case management and advocacy for patients and families.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and community providers.
- Provide brief, solution-focused interventions and develop safety plans.
- Utilize techniques such as motivational interviewing, reflective listening, and trauma-focused CBT.
- Offer crisis intervention and problem-solving support.
- Provide information, referrals, and counseling on child protective needs, IPV, end-of-life, community violence, substance use, mental health, and homelessness.
- Deliver education, crisis intervention, and emotional support.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team members.
- Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in social work.
- Previous medical social work experience preferred.
- Strong clinical skills and familiarity with therapeutic modalities.
- Cultural sensitivity and comfort with diverse populations.
- Bicultural/Bilingual skills are a plus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; sense of humor valued.
Licensure
- LCSW in MA required; LICSW preferred.
