Position Overview

The Clinical Shift Supervisor is responsible for ensuring excellent patient care, maintaining efficient patient flow with a focus on customer service, and supervising nursing staff. The supervisor will provide input and complete staff evaluations, assist with cost containment, and manage staff to optimize resources. Knowledge of leadership and effective interpersonal communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements include a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and two to four years of clinical nursing experience in the relevant specialty.

Responsibilities
Leadership
  • Supervise staff, coach and mentor team members, and lead operational aspects of the shift including patient flow and resource allocation. Champion efficient throughput and capacity management. Lead process improvements and ensure staff behaviors align with UC Health values and mission. Provide transformational leadership related to PFCC, develop standards, and oversee staffing and scheduling. Promote patient safety, identify opportunities for improvement, facilitate conflict resolution, and support staff development.
Resource Management
  • Use resources efficiently to support patient care. Ensure equipment and supplies are adequate and functioning. Participate in hiring, staff orientation, and professional development. Address staff behavior issues and participate in corrective actions. Foster staff retention and teamwork.
Performance Improvement and Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure practice compliance with laws like EMTALA, HIPAA, and House Bill 316. Maintain corporate compliance, oversee risk management, and engage staff in performance improvement activities. Assist in evaluating patient care quality and staff performance through observations, documentation review, and feedback.
Clinical Resources and Competency
  • Maintain nursing competencies and support ongoing education. Serve as a clinical resource, promote evidence-based practice, and facilitate staff professional growth.
